This is just a reminder that our first Transmission Virtual Meet Up is happening soon: March 27th at 1:00 PM Pacific Time. RSVP by email to bmeehan@esri.com. The meeting will be hosted on Zoom and will last an hour. This is a great opportunity to connect with others in the GIS Electric Transmission Community. Ask questions, make comments, or just listen in. We look forward to connecting.

Attention all Esri Transmission GIS users - You don't have to wait until Esri's Users Conference Transmission Special Interest Group (SIG) to get together with your peers to discuss all things electric transmission-related (or even Bulk power-related) discussion. Esri is hosting its first Transmission Meet Up on Wednesday, March 27th, at 1:00 PM PDT. The meet-up will last an hour on a Zoom call. We are building the agenda now. Don't hesitate to post questions or subjects to be addressed. More information will be forthcoming.

Thanks, Brian. This is a very important factor in the determination of the cost of a transmission line. Changes in direction require special structures that can significantly add to the cost of transmission lines.

Hi Lydia, An insulation coordination analysis or study examines the impact of surges on electric lines. Surges are caused by lightning and switching. The study analyzes the dielectric strength of the insulation to withstand the surges. The IEEE standard for Insulation Coordination is IEEE Std 1313.1-1996. The reason I asked is that the data required for such a study would be asset information that could be managed by a GIS. I have not seen examples of GIS used as part of an insulation coordination study. The study would example the BIL of the insulators/lightning protection, and any outside impact on their effectiveness such as damage, salt contamination, age, and avian impacts. Included in this analysis is the grounding scheme and its effectiveness effectiveness. I have not seen any transmission company using GIS as part of an insulation coordination study.

We have 70 members who have expressed their interest in using Esri's ArcGIS for their generation and transmission projects. Take this opportunity to ask your colleagues questions or share your experiences with the group. I would like to get a list of GIS applications that are specifically designed for generation or transmission.

Hi Chris, Thanks for replying. The painting refers to tower painting. We used to do this regularly and it had its problems - requiring special workers. Yup, it is listed twice - good catch. Also, Raptor Protection/ Bird Guarding should be added. You are correct, these are high-level workflows. I'd like to dig deeper into these. Hey folks, can you provide more detailed workflows particularly those that you perform in which you don't use GIS, but could.

Please add to the workflows listed in this slide - I'd like to get a list of the most common workflows that are performed by electric transmission organizations. Then it would be great to have companies that could or do use GIS in their workflows.
