=, came up with an error when I verified it. I'm using the options from "Get unique Values" so case sensitivity doesn't apply. It might be a matter of doing the Query the long way Thanks Paddy

Over the last couple of years I've been using the <> in query builder to exclude out certain categories, unfortunately this year it doesn't seem to be working anymore. I am using the same data, the same version of ArcMap (10.0 Service Pack 5). Would be any obvious reason for this Paddy

Hi Jake Thanks for the reply. I have been using the "" anyway. I was able to sort it out, there is a glitch with Arc Map, what we did to get around it was to re-name the ESRI folder in Applications folder on the C Drive of the effected machines. I type in inverted commas what I want in the field. The calculate window appears for a fraction of a second then disappears. Nothing happens to the table. The same issue has happened on two different PCs and on different layer types (Points & Polygon features) Can anyone help Pat
