Unfortunately I don't have any additional information about how the ArcGIS Server uses the MAC address of the machine or where it is stored. As far as modifying the internal config files, this would be outside the scope of Esri Support and would result in an unsupported environment. I would avoid modifying files internal to the ArcGIS Server infrastructure.

Greetings, If this is a new install and there is no real content or configuration that needs to be preserved you can always start fresh and get it back up and working again. You can do this by: 1. renaming or deleting the C:\arcgisprotal directory 2. uninstall Portal 3. rename or delete the install directory for Portal as well found at C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Portal 4. reinstall the software After completing this none of the old configurations or errors should be found on the machine and we should have a fresh starting point.

Greetings, I just wanted to see ho it was going with this issue. We are seeing some behavior that may apply here. Several Customers are reporting some issues with their Anti-virus and Firewall security features causing crash-like issues with ArcGIS Pro. Typically this happens at application launch so it may not apply to this case but I thought I would mention it here anyway. I hope it is going well. Thanks! -Patrick

Greetings, There are any ways and methods to deploying ArcGIS for Server. There is some very excellent documentation on the GIS Wiki page for System design and deployment strategies. You can find tis documentation at the link below: System Design Strategies - GIS Wiki | The GIS Encyclopedia This goes over many of the most ideal deployment types and strategies for managing resources and machines. There is not really a one size fits all solution. It really depends on how you will be utilizing ArcGIS Server and the published maps. I hope this information I helpful to you. Let us know how it goes as you get closer to deployment.

Yes, it is technically possible to host your own Internal Certificate Authority. You can find plenty of information on this on the web. Unfortunately it is not something that I can assist with. I know many organizations host their own internal CA and use this internal CA to sign their internal SSL Certs. We use them for testing purposes and such almost daily.

Greetings Lisa, That sounds like a good plan. It is always nice to have some back up to assist with these deployments. The Desktop Client will still be connecting over the network to pull the license from the License Manager as long as you are set to use concurrent licenses. If you use a single use license on each client machine it wont need to connect to the License Manager on startup to pull a license down. I hope this is helpful. Patrick

Greetings, This is a bit of a tricky situation for this issue. So to simplify lets take it apart into possible causes of the issue. Generally speaking changing the IP address is supported and should not cause any real long term damage to the machine. That being said, it is important to note that there are a few ways to do this that can break the install completely, especially on Virtual Machines. In some Virtual Machine environments there is a method to update or change the DNS and IP Address settings that also changes the machine IDs and MAC Address of the VM. This will absolutely break the install of ArcGIS Server. I would check with the VM Admin to make sure this is not what was done to the machines to update the IP Addresses. Please let us know how it goes and if we can be of any further assistance. Patrick

Greetings Lisa, Congrats on the new project assignment! Great job being willing to take this on. I am sure you will learn a lot and find it to be a rewarding experience. Deploying ArcGIS Server can be done successfully in may different ways. This all really depends on what is planned for the ArcGIS Server. We will need to consider what the physical resources look like, how many published services it will be running and other factors as well. I would highly recommend exploring the System Design Strategies documents over on the Wiki. You can find a link to these documents here: System Design Strategies - GIS Wiki | The GIS Encyclopedia This will give you a ton of info and will demonstrate several different types of deployments for various purposes. There is definitely an optimal deployment but this will vary on what the end goals are for the machine. Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns as you move forward. Have a good one! Patrick

Greetings, Thank you for your inquiry. I can definitely appreciate your position. Portal can be a bit tricky and SSL is tough if you are not familiar with it. Please find at the link below a guide that should help to create a Domain Certificate in Windows IIS 7. Create a Domain Server Certificate in IIS 7 I can also confirm that many features of Portal will not function correctly with a Self-Signed Cert. You can check if Portal Trusts a cert using the URL below. Just plug in your machine information and the URL that is bound to the cert you are testing as appropriate. https://<server.domain.com>:7443/arcgis/sharing/checkUrl.jsp?url=<insertURLthatisboundtothecertyouneedtotest> I hope this information is useful. There is also a lot of free information on the web regarding SSL and I highly recommend that anyone looking to use Portal brushes up on SSL and builds a bit more knowledge on how to use it effectively.

Greetings, This is correct if your account doesn't have a link called "Web GIS" in it you will need to contact your Account Rep to get this added to your account based on your entitlement level of ArcGIS Server. Your Account Rep can explain the details of the entitlement and if your account should get a Portal license. Once you have the "Web GIS" button you can generate a license for Portal that will have a seat count. The seat count reflects how many users can have their own named account in the Portal Organization.

It is worth noting that Portal is intended to be an internal solution. There may be some means to get this working for external clients and it might be technically possible. This is where AGOL comes in and performs very well. Your initial plans are spot on Venus.

I see several token errors and then several DBMS and SQL errors in those logs. Is the database that is hosting content for these map services on this same machine? Perhaps we need to look at how long it takes for the database to come up after a reboot. If the ArcGIS Server is coming up first and trying to pull data or check connections to the database before it is ready to go we might see errors like the ones in the logs. This is where I would go next to troubleshoot.

Thanks for confirming that Chris. We will need to see what the environment looks like when the machine has to be rebooted again. Before it gets rebooted can we set the logging to verbose on the ArcGIS Server? You can do this by logging into the ArcGIS Server Manager > Click on Logs > change the "log filter" to verbose. Hopefully we can get something useful when this occurs again in the logs in this way. Post up the results when you can. Thanks!

Thanks for the updates Chris, Just to clarify the behavior were seeing lets go through it step by step when the issue occurs. At some point the machine has to be rebooted for whatever reason. Then when it is up and running we Manually start the ArcGIS Server. The published services begin to start up but then flip to stopping shortly after the ArcGIS Server starts up? The ArcGIS Server is then manually restarted and it starts up as normal. Is this accurate to what we are seeing in the environment? Please advise.
