In this virtual meetup, you’ll learn what’s new in ArcGIS and have an opportunity to connect with others virtually in the Telecom User Community. What you’ll learn in this meetup What is an enterprise mapping and spatial analytics system? Self-service mapping with AI assistants Enterprise architecture considerations for ArcGIS Meetup FAQ If I would enable such an Enterprise System on premises, which type of shared storage should I have so that to support Highly Available Scenario. I have visited Esri Documentation, but I noticed that the documentation does not provide specific deployment, instead it provide high level specifications for the shared storage like for example (consistence read after write, random I/O access). Could you describe specific storage deployment in Windows Server Environment? - You can find more information on high availability patterns, including considerations for your relational datastore and ArcGIS data store here: https://architecture.arcgis.com/en/framework/architecture-practices/reliability/high-availability.html#high-availability-patterns You mentioned that Esri was incorporating AI assistants into other apps. What are some examples? - Esri is developing many opportunities for users to leverage AI assistants in our technology. In addition to the demonstration shown in the meetup around ArcGIS Business Analyst and ArcGIS Survey123, there are also AI assistants integrated in ArcGIS Pro, the ArcGIS support website, ArcGIS Hub, Microsoft Copilot, and ArcGIS Survey123 submission using Computer Vision for image extraction, Is the pole audit workflow that was shown available as a preconfigured application? - Yes, the Communications Pole Audit Solution is available for users to deploy as part of our ArcGIS Solutions for Telecommunications. You can find more information HERE Are there ways to check if my ArcGIS Enterprise environment is architected properly for my workflows? - We recommend checking out the ArcGIS Architecture Center as architecture.arcgis.com. You can also reach out to your Esri Account Manager to get connected with a Solution Architect on our team to learn about best practices for growing your enterprise mapping system. Can I make my own AI assistant in ArcGIS? - Yes, leveraging the ArcGIS SDKs and APIs you'll be able to extend the LLMs and AI Assistants from Esri. On one of the architecture diagrams, Neo4j was listed as one of the data stores. Is the graph database used for the network model or does it also include other geospatial data? - The network model shown leveraged the ArcGIS Utility Network to handle the network topology of the fiber and wireless network. ArcGIS Knowledge, which works with graph engines, would allow you to interact with and visualize your graph data inside of ArcGIS. If there are additional questions on this topic, please reply to this post or post your question under the Telecommunications Questions board. See you at the next meetup! -Esri Telecom Team

News & Updates A Look Back at GIS in Telecom in 2024 In 2024, we saw telecommunications companies leveraged GIS technology in several key ways to enhance their operations and service offerings. Here are a few of those ways: Network Planning and Design: Telecom providers used GIS to optimize network planning by mapping out areas with potential for network expansion or where enhancements were needed. This involved analyzing demographic data, topography, and existing infrastructure to determine the most effective locations for new installations like base stations or fiber-optic cables. GIS helped in capacity planning, ensuring that network resources were allocated efficiently to meet demand, particularly in the context of 5G rollout. Network Information Management: GIS was crucial for managing telecom assets, providing a visual representation of all network components, from towers to underground cables. This technology facilitated better asset tracking, maintenance scheduling, and response to network issues by pinpointing the exact locations of assets, which was particularly useful in disaster recovery scenarios. Service Delivery and Customer Management: By integrating GIS with customer data, telecom companies could offer location-specific services and improve customer satisfaction. This included targeted marketing, understanding service coverage gaps, and improving the precision of service delivery, especially for emergency services where location accuracy is critical. Real-Time Network Monitoring: GIS tools were used for real-time monitoring of network performance across different geographical areas. This allowed telecom providers to quickly identify and address network anomalies or outages, thereby reducing downtime and improving service reliability. Environmental and Regulatory Compliance: With the growing emphasis on sustainability, telecoms employed GIS to assess environmental impacts of new installations, ensuring compliance with local regulations and minimizing ecological footprints. This included site selection for new infrastructure to avoid sensitive areas. Disaster Management: GIS technology supported disaster preparedness and response by providing telecom companies with tools to model potential impacts on network infrastructure, plan recovery operations, and communicate effectively during crises. The integration with real-time data feeds allowed for immediate action to maintain service continuity or restore services post-disaster. IoT and Digital Twin Initiatives: With the expansion of IoT and digital twin projects, GIS helped telecom companies in deploying sensors and managing data from these devices across urban environments, enhancing connectivity and service innovation. Geospatial Experiences Podcast: Amerley Ampofo, MTN, Ghana; The key to good leadership is through emotional intelligence
Amerley Ampofo is an incredibly inspirational person. She works in the telco field for MTN Ghana, which is the largest provider of telco services for the country. Her journey from GeoMarketing into Customer Insights & Analytics, continually building on GIS was fascinating to hear and I connected with Amerley immediately. She has a fun personality, is very positive and is extremely driven. She has focused throughout her career on doing the best job she can wherever she is and learning as much as possible while there. Amerley attributes her success to her innate curiosity and natural proclivity to solving problems for the good of the business and society. She says that she has always asked questions to try to learn and encourages listeners to do the same. No matter our role, we can always strive to improve and the best way to do that is to get curious, according to Amerley. I could go out on a limb and say that Amerley has made a career specializing in applying GIS and coupling those skills with her inquisitive nature; in doing so, she has established herself as a subject matter expert in the geospatial field and is an invaluable asset to her industry.
