Hi, Thanks for this one! We had some consternation when writing that part of the documentation, where we weren't completely sure how much to actually include, and I think in our process of trying to figure out what was and wasn't essential, we missed writing a few things that actually were essential (because, as developers, we already knew them). So to answer your questions directly: A variable is, essentially, already declared as one of the fields in the survey itself. We definitely didn't describe that well enough. You can also set a name for a query that can then be used as a variable in the same way (although I don't think we explained that one all too well, either). Again, variables can be existing fields in the survey, but don't have to be. Most cases you'll be using an internal result from a survey question. As to including more elaborate examples, can I get an example of what you're hoping to be able to do with this? We stuck with relatively simple and digestible examples, but if they aren't sufficient, then we'd love to know what is so that we can include it.

Hi Gina, This is covered in the Survey123 Create Surveys FAQ. Frequently asked questions—Survey123 for ArcGIS | ArcGIS In short, even a survey without a geopoint will still attempt to capture a point, it just may not be as precise and is derived solely from the device's location. Separately, if a survey doesn't have any location at all, which can happen if location access is disabled on the device or you use the web app and prevent the browser from capturing a location, the point will save as 0,0.

Hi Daniel, We're aware of the underlying issue causing this, and it's linked to a bug report (BUG-000119026). We intend to implement a full fix for this in 3.2, which will be released soon.

There may be both a user error and device error in this case. While I'm not sure what Android device your workers are using, on the device I'm testing on (Samsung Galaxy S8) that '.-' button produces a minus sign if you press twice on the button, rather than press and hold. As to the button not appearing on integer questions, that may be a device-specific issue, as the '.-' button is present for integer questions on other devices, including other Androids. This could be solved by the use of a third-party Android keyboard.

Hi Nicolas, Can I ask what the actual inability is? Does their device's keyboard not have an option to enter a minus sign, or is the field not accepting the minus sign? What devices are your workers using specifically? This isn't a known bug, but depending on the exact behavior we may have seen similar issues before.

Editor and Field Worker cannot access the AppStudio website or AppStudio Desktop to build an app to license; they can use AppStudio Player, however. Because of that, only the Creator and GIS Professional user types can license the ArcGIS Runtime, and the process to do so is unchanged for them. Those user types can use the AppStudio website with no changes. Access to AppStudio Desktop requires the AppStudio for ArcGIS Standard add-on license, which is available to both the Creator and GIS Professional user types.

Hi Paul, The page you're referring to actually refers to ArcGIS Runtime licensing, which is unrelated. The user type requirements for AppStudio can be found here: System requirements—AppStudio for ArcGIS | ArcGIS There is no change to the process of licensing individual apps.

Hi Dionisio, All you need to do is enable the inbox for your survey in Survey123 Connect (it's in the Inbox sub-tab of the Settings tab), provide the query you need to ensure that you're only going to be returning the surveys you want (so in your example, only the Uncollected rubbish), and then republish your survey. You don't need to make any changes within the survey itself. Your users will then need to re-download the survey, after which they will have access to the inbox.

Hi Roger, This looks like an issue with your implementation, rather than the limits of cascading selects or select one questions; I'm not even aware of how many domains can be included as a maximum, but 400 should be just fine. As reference, the autocomplete sample in Survey123 Connect (which doesn't use a cascading select, but is using a select one) has a little over 5900 choices in its choice list without error.

Hi Allen, Just uninstall the old version and install the new one. Your surveys won't be touched, and will be right there when you've installed the new version.

HI Benjamin, Yes, you can do exactly this! By entering 'null' into the bind::esri:fieldType column for your 'setting/collecting traps' question, the question won't be recorded in the feature service after the survey, letting you make this question as essentially a UI element only. You can find more ifnromation about this here: Esri custom columns—Survey123 for ArcGIS | ArcGIS

Hi Timna, This was added in a recent release, actually! You can enter an expression into the 'required' column' of your survey, allowing a question to be considered required based on the input from a previous question. Check out the docs for examples: Form expressions—Survey123 for ArcGIS | ArcGIS

Hi, The 'file' question type is missing from the XLSForm template, specifically because Connect and the field app can't support it, but it is possible to enter in a file question. Enter the question type 'file' into the form, and publish the survey (you can either select 'yes' the warning message that comes from entering a question type that isn't supported, or just remove the data validation entirely). The survey preview in Connect will display a question with no input, similar to a note type question, but it should work fine in the web app.
