In my testing I've found that switching the "b" to an upper case "B" results in the log messages purging themselves. Feel free to stop the GeoEvent Windows service and switch the case of the letter. - Chris

Hi Erik, Can you confirm a behavior within the GeoEvent config files? 1. Navigate to the following file location and open it in a text editor: 'C:\ProgramFiles\ArcGIS\Server\GeoEvent\etc\ArcGISGeoEvent.cfg' 2. Scoll down to the 16th variable location. It should read as follows: wrapper.java.additional.16=-Djute.maxbuffer=0xA000003 3. Pay particular attention to the "b" in the maxbuffer variable. Is it upper or lower case? - Chris

Hi Erik, The Zookeeper log files should be purging themselves once they reach 64mb in size. There is an auto-purge process built into zookeeper that ensures this occurs. Do you have more than 50 map/feature services published on the ArcGIS Server? I've seen this exact behavior happen when more than about 50 services are published and zookeeper simply keeps writing the same files over and over. - Chris

I'll loop in RJ Sunderman to see if we can get the ball rolling. Since both you and I can reproduce the error we might have a few options. RJ what do you think? Replied above 13-Oct-2017 -- RJ - Chris

Vladimir, I've noticed that it occurs on auto-generated definitions, however not all of them. I've noticed mostly it on nested (grouped) JSON. I'm working on narrowing it down to a reproducible pattern and reporting it to Esri Tech Support. However if you have a reproducible case please let us know as we believe it's a bug that wasn't present in the earlier versions. - Chris

Hi Heather, Thanks for providing this number. With GeoEvent consuming 2.2GB that's normally the upper threshold for the default installation. Before we make any modifications, I do need to know how much RAM is being consumed on the machine overall? When you open task manager and look at the RAM tab, how much is being consumed out of that 16GB? -Chris

For anyone else who notices this behavior, there is now a 10.5.1 Patch that addresses this problem: ArcGIS GeoEvent Server 10.5.1 Patch 1 - Chris

Hey Ryan, Thank you for your question and I'll provide more insight as to how the setup is facilitated. Each single machine node of a Spatiotemporal cluster must be on its own server, and you'll need to install the ArcGIS Data Store program on each one. Once installation is complete, you can then use the web GUI that pops up to setup a new "Spatiotemporal" data store and register it to the same hosting ArcGIS Server. By registering each new node to the same ArcGIS Server, it effectively links all of them together and makes them available to receive data from GeoEvent. The ArcGIS Server itself doesn't control the distribution of data among the nodes, rather it just acts as the middle man and sends commands down to the data store. Data replication, distribution and preparing it for querying is actually handled by the Spatiotemporal Data Store software itself. In a nutshell when each node is registered to the same ArcGIS Server site the software tracks the nodes, controls how the data is distributed and how fast it's available for query. The user doesn't have to modify or control anything, it's simply a matter of registering new data stores on separate machines that will participate in the cluster. Hope this helps - Chris

Hi Heather, This could be a leftover message from when the actual event took place. Sometimes a buffer overflow occurs when the process running GeoEvent doesn't have the correct memory associated to it when the spike of events flows through. Let's start by looking at this avenue first to rule it out. What type of physical specifications does the GeoEvent machine have in terms of RAM and CPU? Also, GeoEvent itself runs on a java.exe process that can be seen within the Window Task Manager. I'd also be interested in the amount of RAM this process is consuming when GeoEvent is running. To correct the buffer overflow we may need to make an adjustment in how GeoEvent allocates and consumes memory, but we'll need to know this number as a baseline first. If you need assistance in viewing the process in the Task Manager let me know and I'll provide a workflow for you. - Chris

Tucker, I'm glad to see that the connection doesn't drop every 24 hours, as that was a pretty annoying bug. However something is still causing the main data store connection to drop which causes the error messages. While you are getting the logs, can you tell me if you have any antivirus software running scans on the GeoEvent machine? - Chris

Hi Tucker, Does the connection fix itself over time, or does someone need to go into the connection and reset it? We noticed a recurring connection issue around the 10.4.x version and I just want to make sure we identify what it is. If you could also provide a copy of your GeoEvent karaf log files it would help narrow down the exact cause. The problem we found at 10.4.x is Bug-000100502 "The default data store connection for ArcGIS for Server GeoEvent extension becomes invalid after approximately 24 hours when using built-in or domain credentials." and was a result of a token prematurely expiring. This bug is fixed in the GeoEvent 10.4.1 Patch 2 which I recommend installing regardless if the bug fixes the exact problem. I'll include the URL link to this patch below: ArcGIS 10.4.1 GeoEvent Extension Patch 2 - Chris

If you wanted to integrate Portal with GeoEvent, you would need to federate this new GeoEvent Server with Portal. You are correct that CA-signed SSL certificate must be installed on the GeoEvent Machine in order for everything to work. You are also correct in that you would need to use the geoeventServer.domain:6143/geoevent/manager URL, as this will be the URL of the new GeoEvent machine. This concept works for other license "function" levels including GIS Server, GeoAnalytics Server and Image Server. I drew the image below to underscore how the concept of the levels work and the general architecture at the 10.5.x version.

Hi Matthew, You would select the "Create New Site" button and configure a new ArcGIS Server. At the 10.5 version, GeoEvent will not work properly if you attempt to join an existing site. The team is working on creating a specific workflow for multiple servers, but at this time GeoEvent needs to be configured with an ArcGIS Server running on its own site. - Chris

Hi Matthew, At 10.5 the licensing level changed models to be more function-based. The workflow you describe was primarily used from the 10.2.x to 10.4.x versions and was redundant. I'll outline the workflow you need for 10.5.x below: There are four different license levels for ArcGIS Server, all corresponding to a different function: 1. GIS Server 2. Image Server 3. GeoAnalytics Server 4. GeoEvent Server To properly install the GeoEvent Server on a separate machine please do the following: 1. Install the ArcGIS Server software 2. License this software with the GeoEvent Server license or provisioning file 3. This action dedicates the ArcGIS Server to run the "GeoEvent" function 4. Install the GeoEvent Server software 5. License the software with the same GeoEvent Server license or provisioning file 6. This activates the GeoEvent software and allows you to build real-time services This new function-based workflow ends up saving your licenses for dedicated functions, as you don't have to double up on licenses for installations. Hope this helps, Chris
