Hi - I know its a novice query, but I have been sent a zip file containing the following file types. I have unzipped it. .cpg .dbf .prj .shp .shx When I try to add to the map, only the .shp file can be seen in Catalog and I have added to the map. I suspect the other files contain the rest of the data I need. I also have an excel file. I am seeking to know what to do with the other file types as they must be important! many thanks

Hi, I have created some hillshaded Lidar rasters in Arc Gis Pro, and they sit in the contents list of the map. Yet, when I return to open the file they are not accessible, with a red ! next to them. Any ideas what's going on never happened before !

Many thanks, but I understand that OFFSET A adds the height values to the observation point. My observation height is human 1.75m. I want to add the height of another point to represent a building. Everything I try fails on this. The issue seems to be where do I put the OFFSET B height value in order to include the building in the analysis. I tried firstly, putting the OFFSET B height value into the same attribute table (different point) as the observer point, and added OFFSET B to Surface offset, but as the two points are in the same feature class it just did a viewshed from each. I tried use different features classes for the two points, and then the analysis cannot find offset B. I only want to add one building height and have it included in the analysis. Perhaps I need to simply add a field in the attribute table for height, but what would I call it to ensure it is considered?

Hi, Any help much appreciated. I am using Visibility (Spatial Analyst). I have an observer point and I want to know what was visible in the surrounding landscape. Therefore, Input raster = DTM Input point: this is the point (call it point A) from which I am making the observation Observer offset: 1.75 (this adds 1.75m to point A, to model human observer height). This works fine. However, I some other points in the map (points B and C) that I want to add a height value for to represent buildings (say 12 metres). I think this needs to go into the attribute table for those points, but I am not sure how I do this, under what field etc., to make the viewshed analysis take their height into account. many thanks

Hi, I want to know from where in the surrounding landscape a building would be visible. I am using viewshed (spatial analyst). I use 1.75m on surface offset to account for a human in each cell. However, I need to add the height of the point (building). Am I correct in thinking that I need to add a field OFFSETA to the attribute table so that the analysis can take account of the point/building height e.g. 6m? Or am I doing this wrong?! many thanks

Hi - I have an attribute table in which I have a field 'Period', within that field is 4 values 'Neolithic', Bronze Age', 'Iron Age' and 'Romano-British'. I selected unique values and 'Period' on symbology, as well as 4 classes, and yet the symbology is showing multiple colours/symbols duplicating my periods - I have attached a screen grab. Any thoughts welcome!

Hi - I have polygon and point data in my project. I want to create a map for a document that uses both - however, it is at a fairly large scale (4km) and whilst I can change the size of points to ensure they can be seen clearly, many of the polygons are hard to see. Is the only way to create point data for the polygons to make this work - or is there a way to make them stand out without increasing their actual size. Many thanks

Hi, I have my Arc GIS Project stored in a one drive folder. So fairly secure. However, to be on the safe side I want to back up in a way that will be easy to us again - so back up to Google Drive. The folder structure is as follows: Project Content folder 1 e.g. maps Content folder 2 e.g. lidar etc Project.aprx - is also at the same level as the content folders Any advice much appreciated !

Hi, Please can someone tell me how I would assess the visibility of a building from along a road? I have run a viewshed from the building and can see where the road is visible. But I am not sure if this viewshed works the other way i.e. would an observer on the road be able to see the building, if an observer at the building site can see the road? Furthermore, if the building is say 12m high and the observer on the road is human height, where would I specify this? thanks - very confused:)
