I don't think you can change this parameter to Derived in the Model Properties. This works for script tools or python toolboxes but not ModelBuilder tools. At least in my case in ArcGIS Desktop 1081. But if you edit your Model > Select Managed in your Output Parameter > then Save the Model: This will change it to Derived in the Model Properties:

In order to get the ModelBuilder Toolbox results added to the TOC automatically you need to do 2 things: 1. Make the output a parameter (which may not work for you since doing this will make it editable) 2. Enable the Add results of geoprocessing operations to the display option from the Standard toolbar: Geoprocessing > Geoprocessing Options > Add results of geoprocessing operations to the display If users check this box, this setting should persist between ArcGIS Sessions, at least it does for me. Now when users run the Model through a Toolbox in ArcMap, the results will be added to the TOC. This can be done in Python too, like you mentioned, but this may be a good workaround for now.

Good catch with the 'Add to Display' not working outside of edit mode. Will revise my answer.

It would be great if we could download and host Operations Dashboards created through Portal or ArcGIS Online and host them on our own IIS Server, similar to Web App Builder.

Collin, To follow up with your original response..would it work if we had a connection using the 'SDE' login (database authentication) and this user could create datasets, assign permissions, ect..and then a separate OS authentication sde connections for users to actually work with the data? Thanks Neel

Start stop services, edit the service parameters, configure capabilities. Hoping this functionality isn't locked down to just admins and the data publisher.. Thanks. Neel

Thanks Thomas. I created a new group in Portal and shared an item with this group. I then added one Test user to the that group. The user is currently set to the Publisher role in Portal. The Test user can see the item in Portal but not in Server Manager. Is there a way to set it up so Publisher roles can access/edit Services via Server Manager?

We are running 10.7.1 federated Server and Portal. It's my understanding that by default, only the person who publishes data to ArcGIS Server and the server Administrator can view/modify/delete a particular services. What we're trying to accomplish is a system where anyone who is assigned to the Publisher (or custom?) role in Portal can view and modify all services within Server Manager. I set up a custom role in Portal that has View, Edit, Manage, Create privileges and a few Admin privileges Great, now anyone assigned to that role can see all the Services in Server Manger. But they now have access to edit the Server security settings, such as editing the PSA account. Is there a way to give certain users access to view/edit Services within Server Manager without giving them the ability to edit Server Manager security settings?

Thanks! My reasoning behind having the sde_admin/sde_editor users is to prevent data from being deleted by non-admins. With one headless sde account, anyone who finds the sde connection file could, in theory, start editing or deleting data.

We are thinking about moving toward OS Authentication for our enterprise geodatabases on SQL Server 17. I'm curious how this will affect data owner ship and the ability of edit schemas/domains. We have two Users set up, Viewer and Modify So in this example, a user with OS Authentication to an SDE creates a feature class and applies the correct privileges to the feature class for the Viewer and Modify users. Can someone else make their own connection to the SDE and make schema changes/edit the domain? Or will that be restricted to the person who originally created the data? If we go the database authentication route, I'm thinking about creating two 'SDE' accounts: SDE_Admin and SDE_Editor. SDE_Admin would have full rights to the geodatabase but SDE_Editor would only have the ability to create and modify data but not delete. Then put at Admin SDE in a secure location for only the admin while the Editor SDE connection would be in a shared location? Would a setup like this be feasible/make sense?

Thanks George! So in theory, one instance should be okay as long as we're not getting close that that maximum # of instances or having performance issues? I'm not sure what we're at memory/CPU usage wise but I can find that out. Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything in terms of best practices. Thanks

Thanks! I think using an internal IP might work for us. Otherwise, how could we set up the web adapter to require authentication before showing any services? Is something like this possible? Currently we're using windows authentication to see our private rest services but our public ones are accessible right off the bat.

Is there a way to block access to the rest services directory at the web adapter level for external users? We do not want to simply disable the rest services directory altogether as we still need access for internal users. Currently if someone knows our rest service url they can access our unsecured rest services. We are looking for a way to either block or redirect them. This is for ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7.1
