Sorry I am just now noticing your response from Feb 2021. So it appears I simply forgot to add more context to the solution response. All issues with the Python not updating layers with joins and saving the Pro projects were fixed after I updated from Pro 2.3.3 to 2.4.1. Something in the Pro update fixed the issues. I will edit my solution response to reflect this as well. I am currently running Pro 2.7.1 and have not tested this out in that version to ensure it still works with no issues. I will say our organization is just now needing to utilize this Python for our Pro projects in our dev environment. We will know for sure soon if this Python works like we need it to. If anything needs to be changed I will let you know.

Currently when connecting to my Portal within ArcGIS Pro (2.5.2), there doesn't appear to be any way to sort Portal group items within the Catalog Pane. I understand you can sort a group's items via the Catalog View, but the having the ability to sort via the Pane would make life a lot easier and would make a lot of sense. Also when viewing a Portal group's content within the Catalog Pane, it would be nice to be able to use the Search bar to search for items within the group itself, instead of the Search bar only being used to search for groups within the Portal. Does anyone know if either one of these basic functions are planned for ArcGIS Pro in the future?

I haven't really compared the two performance wise. If we move forward with Portal web services in Pro projects, to my understanding we would not have to mess with the Pro projects at all. Instead all we will have to do is update the registered data stores (within ArcGIS Server) used in each service and restart/republish the service. Once we do that, all of the Pro projects should pick up the changes, since they would all be using web services as layers instead of SDE direct connections.

Is there currently anyway to disable the import map button within ArcGIS Pro? My organization is about to begin rolling out ArcGIS Pro to all of our ArcMap users. Our plan is to have those users create new Pro projects that utilize our web services within our Portal, instead of importing their old mxd files that contain layers using SDE connection files to our enterprise geodatabase (which runs within Oracle 12c). This method would prevent us from having to go back and run a Python script on all of our customers' mxd files to update the data source information after our database accounts passwords are updated. Are there any registry keys we can set to disable this functionality with the install package we set up for our organization? If this functionality doesn't exist currently, does anyone know if this might be added in a future release of Pro? For reference I am currently using ArcGIS Pro 2.5.1.

According to this ESRI article, Overwrite a web layer, it appears that only the owner of a web layer can overwrite it within ArcGIS Pro. This seems like this could be problematic for our GIS team at my organization. We currently run ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1 (federated) and I am one of the Portal administrators. We have a small number of Portal admins that need to be able to republish/overwrite any of our map services whenever necessary to help support our GIS team's web apps. Why doesn't a Portal administrator have the ability to overwrite all web layers within Pro? Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the overwrite a web layer tool essentially the same as republishing a map service within ArcMap? We republish each other's services all the time within ArcMap, so I assumed the functionality would be there in Pro by now. The only workaround I see currently is to go into Portal and change the owner of a web layer to myself, which then gives me the ability to overwrite the web layer within Pro. Is that the only solution right now? Any idea if this will change in future releases of ArcGIS Pro?

Hey Chase! It has been extremely difficult to pinpoint the cause of this issue. I had worked with ESRI tech support for a few weeks awhile back and we both could not figure out the reasoning behind it. What I ended up doing was putting in an additional if statement in my Python script to check a layer's workspacePath for keywords (like 'APPDATA', 'LOCAL', 'TEMP', '.SDE') that would match that odd temporary SDE file path. Once I had that layer captured in that if statement, I assigned it to one of our updated SDE files. This meant all of those temporary SDE paths would end up being reassigned to the same SDE file. This isn't ideal because I would like for them to match up with the account used previously, but it was the best solution I could come up with. Hopefully this helps!

After working with ESRI tech support for several weeks, we finally found a solution. It appears that one of our custom geoprocessing services (geometric network trace) was causing the issue with all of the services showing as Stopping. We believe the service became corrupted some how. Below are the general steps I followed to fix the issue (if you need more details let me know): - Backed up ArcGIS Server directories (default locations - C:\arcgisserver & C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Server) - Exported ArcGIS Server Site (single machine site) via ArcGIS Admin page. - Uninstalled ArcGIS Server & renamed the Server folder located at the default location of C:\Program Files\ArcGIS - Reinstalled ArcGIS Server with the exact same configuration as previously used (had to create new empty Server folder at C:\Program Files\ArcGIS during installation) - Created new site within ArcGIS Server with the same PSA info as previously used. - Imported previous site via ArcGIS Admin page. - After my site had been imported successfully, I had to stop the ArcGIS Server service and copy over the old security-config.json, which contained federation information, to the new install of ArcGIS Server (default location - C:\arcgisserver\config-store\security). - Restarted ArcGIS Server service and verified via ArcGIS Server Manager that all of my services were shown as Started and ArcGIS Server security was set to Portal for ArcGIS (under the Security tab of ArcGIS Server Manager) - Opened new tab and went to the associated Portal --> Organization --> Edit Settings --> Servers and validated the associated ArcGIS Server site (green check mark next to server name) - Searched for and located the custom geoprocessing service within Portal and deleted the item. Just to double check, I went back to ArcGIS Server Manager to make sure the service had been removed. - Opened mxd file and run the associated model and published the result as a new service with the same name as the previously deleted geoprocessing service. - After a successful service publish, I checked the service to make sure it was running correctly. - To fully make sure the issue had been resolved, I stopped & restarted the ArcGIS Server service (all services came back up as Started) and then rebooted the entire server itself (all services came back up as Started). After both of those checks, I deemed the issue resolved.

I have a geometric network trace service that was built with model builder within ArcMap 10.6.1. The service accesses data within our enterprise geodatabase that resides within Oracle (12c) and the data is registered with our ArcGIS Server site. When attempting to run the trace service, I am receiving the Oracle error, ORA-03114: Not connected to Oracle. The odd thing is if I go to ArcGIS Server Manager and stop & start the service (or republish the service entirely), the error stops and the trace runs successfully. What I have gathered is the service appears to fail again after the service is recycled at midnight every 24 hours. I will also note that I have this same exact service running on two other environments and this error is not occurring on those environments. I've compared the models on all environments and they all match with the exception of each one pointing to the data on its respective environment. Can anyone provide any insight on what I might be able to try to get this resolved?

I have already reached out to tech support and a case was opened on 12/2/19. I have been working with a guy named Steven. We went through several workflows (including the one you mentioned above) and when none of them worked, his only other recommendation was to uninstall the recent windows patches and/or uninstall/reinstall ArcGIS Server.

Jill, do you think that possibly running the repair option for ArcGIS Server might fix the issue? Do you know if the repair will interfere with the federation?

I currently support geometric water networks for my organization. The water networks consists of things like water lines, valves, hydrants, etc. I have recently began making updates that including adding/removing lines and valves. What I don't fully understand is when/if I need to rebuild the geometric network after changes are put in place. Will the network automatically pick up those updates to the lines and valves or will a geometric network rebuild be required? Can anyone give me some insight on this to ensure I know exactly when I need to rebuild the networks in the future.

That was one of the first workflows I tried and it did not work. I have tried it a few times on that server and nothing changes. I will also mention when I log into the ArcGIS Server Administrator and go to machines --> machineName --> status I see that the configured state is set to STOPPED and the real time state is set to STARTED. I went back to the machine page and clicked on the start operation. It ran for several minutes and nothing happened so I stopped it. I then went back to the machine page and clicked on the stop operation and then tried the start operation again. This time it ran and both the configured state and the real time state were set to STARTED. But when I went to ArcGIS Server Manager and tried to load the services page, it never loaded and none of the services were working (tried accessing web apps using those services). Not sure if this info matters, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to share.
