Hey folks - Apologies for the delayed response on this. We have confirmed with Microsoft that ArcGIS Maps for Power BI works in the government cloud. It just needs to be enabled at the tenant and workspace levels (there are two flags). The recommendation we received from Microsoft was to make sure the Power BI admin has enabled the switches. Unfortunately there's nothing else we can do from the Esri side, but hopefully this will help to point the request in the right direction! Let me know if there are any further questions. Josh

Hey Steven, This looks like it's an ArcGIS Online error page which is outside of our field of expertise here in ArcGIS Maps for Power BI land. I'd recommend either re-posting your question in the ArcGIS Online Geonet forum here: https://community.esri.com/community/gis/web-gis/arcgisonline ... or else reaching out to support for help with this. Thanks, Josh

Hey Steven, No there's no need to maintain both. The ArcGIS Online subscription is a superset of features as compared to the Plus subscription. Josh

Thanks for the clarity! Were you originally trying to use the "Sign in" button to enter your ArcGIS Online credentials? If this was a point of confusion, that'd be good feedback for us as the product team so that we can consider ways to augment the sign in dialog and make it less confusing.

Hey Steven - Not sure I understand your question correctly - but I think you're asking "how do I set a feature layer so that it's not public." In ArcGIS Online, you would need to set the permissions for the layer to only be accessible by specific users rather than having the service set to "Public". If you didn't set those permissions when you initially published up the feature layer, click "Share" in ArcGIS Online and change the sharing settings there (uncheck "Everyone (public)" and only share it with the group containing the user that you actually want to be able to see it). It looks like this: Since this is going outside of Maps for Power BI stuff, I'd recommend that you engage with support as well so that they can help walk through some of this stuff (particularly setting sharing from your original source) - I'm happy to still help with the Power BI side of things though! Josh

Hi James, Another update - the problem should now be resolved! If you clear your browser cache and reload Power BI, you should be able to see version 1.0.0.93 in production (hover over the Esri logo in the bottom right corner to verify this). If you are still experiencing issues after you've confirmed that you are on that build, please let us know as soon as possible. Thanks, Josh

Hi James, We identified an issue with the Maps for Power BI visual that happened this morning which has caused persisted formatting data to disappear for people. The underlying data is still there, so please do not save your report with the default data to avoid losing it. We're currently working with Microsoft to push up a fix for this issue which should go live within the next hour (as of the time of writing, it's 12:40PM Pacific time). You'll be able to verify that you have the updated version by hovering over the Esri logo at the bottom right of the visual (see screenshot below). The version exhibiting the behavior is 1.0.0.89, and the fixed version is 1.0.0.93. Thanks, Josh

Hi everybody - A quick update on this. We've identified the issue and we're working with Microsoft to get it fixed right now. We should have it fixed and updated within around an hour (at the time of writing, it is 12:40PM Pacific). Until the fix is live, please do not save updates to reports that contain the visual if possible. You will not lose any data that already exists in regard to your base map selections / reference layers / etc unless it is overwritten with defaults. You will be able to manually verify that the update has arrived by checking the build number of the visual on your report. In the visual, hover over the Esri logo in the bottom right corner (as shown in the screenshot below) to see the current build number. If it shows "ArcGIS Maps for Power BI (version: 1.0.0.93)" then it has been updated. The version exhibiting the behavior described above is 1.0.0.89. Josh

Hi Rasmus and Yoav! We think we might know what caused the issue, and we're in the process of investigating and getting a fix in place. In the interim, can you please confirm the following to be true: Reports created in previous versions of ArcGIS Maps for Power BI do not now show their old base maps correctly. You can sign in and add those base maps, but... When you save and exit and reload the report, it reverts back to an Esri default base map. If that is the behavior, we think we might have it figured out and hopefully we'll have it fixed shortly. Apologies for the inconvenience! Josh

Hi Amber, Running through your questions one by one: 1. Will I need ArcGIS Plus to retrieve basemap info/layers into PowerBI that I have create and shared from ArcGIS online? This needs to be a bit of a nuanced answer, since you asked about both basemaps and layers. Regarding base maps, you will need to sign in to your ArcGIS Online organization in Maps for Power BI in order to view organizational base maps. If signed in to an ArcGIS Online account, you will also get access to all "Plus Subscription" features automatically including the additional "core" base maps that would normally come with that type of subscription. If you have created and shared Feature services publicly using ArcGIS Online, then you can consume those layers as a reference layer directly in Maps for Power BI without signing in at all as long as they are feature services with a single layer. If you have published and shared them privately within your ArcGIS Online organization, then you can sign in to Maps for Power BI and consume the layers. In this case, any subsequent report consumer would also need to sign into an organizational account which has permissions to view the private service, unless it is shared publicly. 2. If I create data in ArcGIS online to later use in PowerBI, will my ArcGIS license (licensed as ArcGIS Desktop) need to be basic, standard, or advanced? Your ArcGIS Desktop license is unrelated to ArcGIS Maps for Power BI. As long as you can publish your Feature service to ArcGIS Online and sign in to an ArcGIS Online account that has permission to view that service, you can consume it from ArcGIS Maps for Power BI. There is no current connection between ArcGIS Desktop (or Pro) and Power BI. Please let me know if I missed the intent of this question! Thanks, Josh Jones Lead Product Engineer, Microsoft Integration, Esri

Hey Carol, I'd like to make sure I understand your workflow here. You say that you're "sharing Power BI files online" - do you mean you're authoring something in PBI Desktop, then consuming it in the cloud, trying to publish a report to the web, or something else that I'm not thinking of? My next question is - does this happen in other browsers than IE? If you're authoring something in Desktop and then it hangs like this when you try to open it in the cloud, that's not expected behavior. We would need to get more info about your specific dataset (or a representative sample) to troubleshoot it. Josh

Hi Jimmy, My name is Josh Jones and I'm the Lead Product Engineer for Microsoft integrations at Esri. I noticed that you posted this in the "ArcGIS Maps for Power BI" community. Did you have a question related to that product as well? Specific to your question, Esri Maps for Microstrategy was placed into a retired status on February 1st 2019, and unfortunately we are unable to offer support for the product at this time as a result. Details on the current support status can be found here: Esri Support Esri Maps for MicroStrategy 3.0 If there are workflows in your organization which rely upon Esri Maps for MicroStrategy, I'd be happy to connect with an account manager who can help you find alternatives. Thanks, Josh

Hey Chris, I can't comment on the "non-licensed PowerBI desktop" piece, but as far as ArcGIS Maps for Power BI, there are a few different sets of limits depending on how you're using the software: If you are putting addresses on the map which require geocoding (i.e. "380 New York St., Redlands, CA") there is a limit of 1500 points. With a Plus subscription, this goes up to 5000 points. If your points are expressed as lat/longs, you can put up to 30,000 points on the map with both the free version of the visual and the Plus subscription. Hope this helps - let me know if you have other questions! Josh
