We have been having this issue of high number of ArcSocs which has been boging down our server. I received some suggestions here such as increasing the memory on our ArcGIS server and Webadaptor which i have done. All the 4 servers in our federated environment are now 64GB physical memory. I have also reduced all the instances to a maximum of 2 which makes it 4 for the two servers, I also changed some instances from dedicated to shared. I also added an extra ArcGIS server and have the two servers share the Configstores and Directory on a Fileshare. Now the ArcGIS server manager takes a good while to open up when accessed. The number of ArcSocs is still at 219 and 225., Some of the services are also timing out from time to time. So I have exhausted all options without solution. I got another option to remove all unused map services from the server, and I got this script hoping that it will be able to help me list all the unused map services and the date of last used and time. The script is running but not providing the necessary things like the last-used date and time. So I am here to seek help again. I am attaching the script. I know we have over 100 mapservcies from 2019 to date but i need to extract the ones that are no longer in use and get rid of them to see if the ArcSOCs can be reduced

when you restart the ArcGIS Server windows service, do the 200+ ArcSOCs immediately spool up, or does it happen over time? The ArcSOCs immediately spool up Do you see anything in the ArcGIS Server logs viewable from ArcGIS Server Manager or Admin menu? Yes We also use the Task Find command to get the counts the ArcSOCs from the command prompt

Hi Chris, In response to your questions, pls see below Since your default instance type for new services is "dedicated": How many services do you have on the server. - We have a good number of services- about 100 What are the default min./max. number of instances for a services ? default mini/max of instances 0/2, very few have 1/3 though not up to 10 services Does the Windows Service run under a Domian User, a Windows Managed User or under "local System" Yes - Domain user Usualy ArGIS Server only spins up a SOC if there is a request to a service. So either there are a lot of requests generated somewhere or maybe something prevents the server from shutting down the SOCs. that's what we are yet to figure out meanwhile we have resorted to setting up additional ArcGIS Server site, hoping that would resolve the issue as recommended by Esri. About to set up a test environment for that

Thanks Cody, Yes I have access to the ArcGIS server. We started noticing the issue on August 20th after ITS did their routine Windows update. I will post a screenshot of the Taks manager now with the memory column sorted

We are running Enterprise ArcGIS 10.9.1 on Windows Server 2016 now upgraded to Windows Server 2022 We suddenly started noticing that the Memory consumption on the ArcGIS server is spiking upto 99% and on checking we noticed that the ArcSOC is generating in tons up to 224 ArcSOCs when we checked the counts. We don't know what could be causing the spikes, because we haven't done anything different in the environment. All our servers are on Virtual Machine What we have done so far in the process of troubleshooting 1. We had to upgrade the memory on the Web adaptor based on one of the recommendations we found here - --- problem persisted 2. Installed all the Esri Patches on all the servers - Including the Portal for ArcGIS, Datastore and ArcGIS Server 3. Upgraded and updated the Windows Server operating system from Windows 2016 to Windows 2022 4. Our Server is a VM machine and the memory is 32GB, according to our ITS, it cannot take any more memory as that is the max for it 4. Contacted Esri Analyst support for help - They are yet to find solution 5. We have also changed some of our Map services that are infrequently used from Dedicated to Shared services, still that did not provide a lasting solution So, I am here to seek for help, if anyone has had such experience

We are currently preparing our users and environment in readiness for the deprecation of classic story maps and Web App builder. We have a bunch of Apps developed by different users, and it has been very tedious going through the apps one by one. I am wondering if I can get help in this forum, or anyone knows of a script or model that I can use to list all apps that were developed using WebApp builder as well as WebMaps that were created using Classic map

This option wouldnt work for me because of the cost attached. I would be required to justify the cost and this is not a justifiable because it is an Esri application and they expect that Esri should have a solution to the issue.

Hello all, I am working on Cleaning up some of the unused web maps, apps, and feature layers in my Portal for ArcGIS 10.9.2. I tried using a script recommended on the Esri website, " Find dependencies in Portal for ArcGIS using ArcGIS API for Python [support.esri.com]." unfortunately, the script listed all the dependencies on the entire Portal Site, in a very messy way that it was difficult to uniquely identify the files. I tried to narrow it to the folder level by editing the script, but that didn't work. I tried to delete some of the web maps and apps manually, but I ended up deleting some of the critical files and having to rebuild the apps again. I would really appreciate to get some help here

Thank you very much once again Bilal! That resolved the problem. I believe my Web adaptor was overloaded with temp files and also my ArcGIS server was showing the temp folder as 10GB . I am just wondering why that should be an issue as I still have about 63GB free disk space on my ArcGIS server and the portal for ArcGIS was about 132GB free drive size.
