Hi Elisa, I wanted to provide a follow-up to this thread. We now have the capability to view version changes using branch versioning in Pro 2.4. If you haven't already, please upgrade your version of Pro to 2.4 and try it out! Hope this helps and thanks so much for posting that idea! https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/help/data/geodatabases/overview/using-the-version-changes-command.htm Jonathan

Hung, If this is specific to one machine on your end, have you tried a repair of ArcGIS Pro? Or even an uninstall and reinstall? Jonathan

Just to clarify, you can connect to the database from ArcMap using the IP address but still cannot register using the IP address or can you actually connect ArcGIS Server to the database using the IP address (and register the database)? If you can register the database using the IP address but the machine name fails, check to ensure network discovery is enabled. I've seen this be the issue a few times. https://superuser.com/questions/1068448/cant-access-pc-by-name-but-can-by-ip-address

Andre, These errors mean that ArcGIS cannot communicate with your database. What happens if you ping your database machine from your ArcGIS Server machine? Can they communicate? Can you telnet over the default SQL Server port (1433)? It may be beneficial to open a support case on this as there is only so much we can do here.

Andre, It sounds like you are trying to register this database with ArcGIS Server when you are publishing from ArcMap. But what happens if you try to register it from Server Manager? Same failure? https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/server/10.5/publish-services/windows/registering-your-data-with-arcgis-server-using-manager.htm

Hi Andre, Before I delve into specifics, can we hash out the versions of things you are using? You are working with SQL Server 2012, any service packs installed? What version of Desktop and Server are you using? Next, where are you trying to register this database from? Server Manager? ArcMap? Pro? SQL Server is unique in that you can install the 64 bit client and connect to both 32 bit and 64 bit applications. So, I always recommend folks just install the 64 bit client on their desktop client machines as well as their ArcGIS Server machines. Is that what you have done here? If not, what is your current situation? It's a little hard to tell from the original post. Jonathan

It should still behave the same way regardless as long as it is a query layer.

Naresh, So one of the things that bugged me about this issue is that you really shouldn't be able to edit query layers. They are simply SQL statements of tables in the geodatabase and we really should be editing the underlying table itself. Query layers can be used as inputs to GP tools or accessed via developer API's but not edited in the traditional sense. I think the edit options not being greyed out on my end is actually the issue here and not the issue you are seeing. While the edit options in Pro for me are "live", if I actually try to move or delete a feature it errors out as I would expect to see. Sorry I didn't actually test this earlier, I got caught up in whether the edit options were live or not live and lost sight of the core issue here. I'd recommend contacting Support so we can create a case on this and investigate further. But your inability to edit the query layer from an enterprise geodatabase is what should be expected here per my understanding. Jonathan

Can you try going through this workflow to create the query layer and see if it lets you edit? I just tried your exact query here and it works fine for me. Are you using Pro 2.3.3 or 2.3.0? https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/help/data/query-layers/creating-a-query-layer.htm

Hi Naresh, Is this just a simple query to 1 underlying table? If I do a "select * from table" and use that to create a new query layer, I can modify and delete features in Pro. But if you are doing a more complex query with a join or other behavior, that could be playing a role here. Can you include the query you are using? How are you creating the query layer? Jonathan

Hung, Is this specific to one instance of ArcGIS Pro perhaps? Or possibly an issue with the cloned Python environment? Like Anthony mentioned, ArcGIS Pro 2.4 with the 2.4 untools works fine for me. I would try removing the cloned Python environment, cloning a new environment from Default, installing the untools again, and seeing what you get. And just to make sure, you have either a Standard or Advanced license of Pro correct? The tool will not work with a Basic license. Jonathan

Whit, I left out one other place. In C:\Program Files\ArcGIS, you would need to remove any Server, Portal or Data Store folders there as well.

Hi Whit, Sure. When you use Enterprise Builder to setup ArcGIS Enterprise and it fails or you uninstall it for some reason, there are going to be some folders left behind. For example, we don't delete the content directory if you uninstall. If you are installing new and it fails and you'd like to just start over, then check these locations out and delete these folders: C:\arcgis arcgisdatastore arcgisserver arcgisportal C:\ arcgisserver Be careful though since there could be other items in the first location you don't want to delete. For example, I have ArcTutor data installed on my machine and that also lives in C:\arcgis. If I just deleted that folder, I'd also wipe that out. After doing this, you can go through the install process again. If you get to the configuration part of the install process and it tries to do an upgrade rather than a fresh install, then something was left behind. Hope that helps! Jonathan

John, Yes, in order to utilize Portal for ArcGIS you'll need a base deployment of ArcGIS Enterprise. It would be something separate from a workgroup geodatabase. If using AGOL is out of the question, then you would need Enterprise to use Collector in your organization. But this may come down to cost too so that's a discussion to have with your Account Manager and/or Customer Service. Jonathan

Hi John, It sounds like you are talking about 2 different needs here: A basic Enterprise deployment with Portal, Server, and Data Store (and 2 web adapters for Portal and Server) which is similar to what one might get if they used Enterprise Builder to set this up. A workgroup geodatabase which is an instance of SQL Server Express licensed and enabled to store workgroup geodatabases. Is that correct? If so, 1 is going to be separate from the other. For workgroup geodatabases, we do have some requirements that need to be met: https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/server/latest/manage-data/windows/workgroup-geodatabases.htm The big one there is that the SQL Express instance be installed on the same machine as ArcGIS Server. For simplicity, Portal could be there as well but that depends on machine resources. The Data Store component though is completely separate. Data Store has its own PostgreSQL databases which store the data published to it. So data stored in SQL Express (workgroup GDB) and in Data Store wouldn't be connected in any way other than they are published to the same federated environment in your case. Hope that makes sense, let me know if you have any questions. Jonathan
