Hi Melita, We'll be creating a pairwise distance matrix of bird locations to look at geographic distance coupled with genetic distance for speciation purposes. I don't think extremely precise distances will be needed, so I've just put them in USA_Contiguous_Albers_Equal_Area_Conic_USGS_version for now. Was just curious to see if anything for the SE USA existed that might be a better fit for that region/yield more accurate measurements than Albers EAC. Thank you!

Any suggestions for the best projected coordinate system (in meters) for the Southeastern US, particularly the state of Florida (entire state), coastal Georgia, and coastal Alabama and Mississippi?

I am creating a survey for sea turtle surveys, and I have repeated fields for each animal. There is weather/sargassum patch information associated with each turtle that is captured. Often multiple turtles are captured in the same sargassum patch and under the same weather conditions. Is there a way to frame a calculation statement so that the weather/sargassum information can be automatically carried over to the next entry (from the first in a list of repeated fields) to save time in the field? The way I currently have it produces an error because it's a circular reference (photo attached). Ideally, I would like the second observation (turtle) to default to the first, but I am not sure how to code this or if it's even possible. Thank you!

Here's a fun little challenge. I have point locations of snakes, and I need to extract the habitats associated with each point from a land cover raster. Problematically, the points were taken along roads, not within the actual habitats in which the snakes were spotted. I would like to extract the values of the raster cells nearest the "Road" cells without modifying the land cover raster (it's 20GB). Currently I am just zooming in to each point and doing this manually, but thought there might be a way to do it more quickly. Thanks for the help!

I am running a hotspot analysis on polygons assessing spatial clustering of decreases/increases in the population size of a particular bird (the increase or decrease is the weight, I am using the CONTIGUITY_EDGES_CORNERS Conceptualization of Spatial Relationships). Problematically, I have two polygons with zero nearest neighbors (no overlap, edges/corners touching--think islands). The optimized hotspot analysis runs without any issues, and one of these islands emerges as a significant cold spot. Are these results valid, or should I exclude these polygons from the analysis and only use contiguous polygons? Thank you!

Still couldn't get this to work by changing the processing extent to that of the FL polygon, but using the Kernel Density tool worked like a dream, thank you!

Hi all, Is there a way to change the extent of the output density surface raster from the Optimized Hotspot Analysis tool? I have tried adjusting the processing extent in the environment settings and also changing the extent of the input point shapefile, but this seems to do nothing. Does the tool not extrapolate beyond the XY extents of the input points under any circumstances? Below is a picture of my issue. I realize there are no additional points to the north or west to interpolate to, but I am looking to create mirror images of the half-circles already formed for aesthetic purposes. Thank you!

For example, if a field tech is monitoring the same animal over a time-series can the field default to the same animal ID as the previous record?

Hi all, I am looking for an efficient way to digitize hand-drawn range maps (I have about 200 of them). They are all drawn on the same basemap--a polygon of my state. I thought I could possibly scan them all, save as tifs, and georeference them using a polygon shapefile of the state. If anyone knows of a quicker, better alternative please let me know. I am open to any and all suggestions!

Hi all, Many of my agency's mobile data collection has thus far been accomplished using the Fulcrum application, but a few our of groups requested switching over to Survey123/Collector. In Fulcrum, I typically design the app and then import an ESRI Shapefile of point locations. These point locations show up on a map in the app and users can navigate to a point, click it, and enter all of the survey information they need. I am looking for a similar set-up/user experience with Survey123 (or possibly Collector), and it is important to have repeatable nested fields (users collect vegetation species data along with percent cover of each plant species). Designing the app in Survey123 seems simple enough, but I am struggling to understand how I can attach location data to each record (we have hundreds of points to visit), visualize the points on a map, and navigate to the points as we do in Fulcrum. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

I feel like it should be reliable as it's from USGS EarthExplorer, although I have never used LiDAR from there before.
