Unfortunately I can't orthorectify. The imagery I have is from the drone we are working with and it only takes photos, it does not provide geographic information. As a result, the raster dataset does not have RPCs and I am unable to orthorectify. Georeferencing is my only option. Any suggestions?

I'm also having trouble with the images. The images are gigantic compared to the DEM. I zoom in on the DEM, but then the images does the same thing, and this is even before i start adding in the control points. Is there anyway I can resize the images for creating a mosaic. Should I be saving the images in different formats (they're in .jpg)?

I'm starting to piece this together. Every time georeference one image onto some control points it's visible until I put another one on there. What I'm going for is a mosaic. Like I said, it works until I georeference the next image, then the most recent one is the only one visible. What am I doing or not doing? Thanks

So in lieu of orthorectification (the drone I'm using does not provide geographic data) I have decided to try georeferencing as a means of overlaying aerial photography onto my DEM. Before I go out there and start taking some control points with the differential GPS I was hoping I could get some advice. I've done this in class before and if I remember correctly 6-10 control points is optimal per image, correct? Secondly, I am doing this for an archaeological site on a mountain the Andes. So I can survey the actual units for control points, but other than that, there's not much else I can use as control points in some areas of the mountain. There's cacti here and there, but nothing that really stands out. In a classroom environment I've done this with urban maps where buildings and road intersections could be used. This is the desert and pretty barren. Also, if someone could explain the process of georeferencing to me a little better I'd appreciate it. I understand labeling control points and what not and giving the image a projection to match the DEM. But the end result should be a mosaic of the images I've gathered, correct? Thanks again for your help!

I'm currently trying to orthorectify some images onto a DEM. I understand the process well enough, but the problem I've run into is that in the "image analysis" window the "orthorectify" button is not active. Apparently this means that the raster dataset does not have RPCs.I really don't have a clue what that means. I'm not very experienced in this sort of thing. If it helps at all, the images I'm trying to orthorectify are in .jpg format and I took them using a DJI Phantom 2 drone at about 65m elevation. Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Okay, simple enough. Also thank you for your help. So my problem now is that orthorectify button is not active which must mean that the raster dataset does not have RPCs. How can I fix this? Thanks!

So the next phase of my project is to orthorectify aerial photography taken with a drone to the DEM I have created. Which tool would I use for this? The ArcGIS resource desk seems to think I'll need to use the Copy Raster tool. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

Well I was hoping to get something a little more detailed. But then again, I've only got 146 points that I obtained using a differential GPS. What I've got now does resemble the mountain I've surveyed, but it is lacking in detail. I do intend to go back out and take more points. I assume this will give me more detail. Yes? I created a TIN and it seems to be more detailed. Essentially what I'm doing is creating a 3-D map of this mountain in Peru where some archaeologists are excavating. This professor wants me to create a DEM of the excavation site, but the more I read into it, it seems that a TIN may be the better option. What she is going to want is detail, as much as I can get. I'm just a student, so I'm still learning this, so please bear with me. But a TIN would be a form of DEM in essence, no? I mean it is showing relief, it's three dimensional, so I imagine either would be good for the project, it's just a matter of what is more presentable I suppose. Any thoughts? Once again, thanks.

Is it possible to create a DEM from a TIN? If so, how? I'm using ArcMaps 10.2.2. Thanks

No, not for every pixel. Currently it only has XYZ values for the points I recorded with a differential GPS. Earlier when I was working on it I had a TIF file on there and it was working properly for a while. I had min and max values for elevation and when I clicked on random pixels with the identify tool it displayed elevation values. However now the TIF file is somehow corrupted, it gives me a value for the highest recorded point, but the minimum value now reads -3.40282e+038. Somehow, something happened to it. Is there anyway I can fix the TIF? Because before that happened I was on track, so I believe. I've tried completely starting from scratch, but the TIF always does that. The dBASE was originally a .txt file from the data I transferred from the data collector to my computer. Hopefully that gives you a better clue as to what is going on. Thanks for the help!

So I am a beginner at GIS. I am using ArcMaps 10.2.2 and my task is to create a digital elevation model for a site I surveyed in Peru. I have the data in a text file and created a dBASE with said data. But from here I'm completely at a loss for getting the ball rolling on this. If anyone could help and give me the most simple instructions possible, I would be eternally grateful.
