Repeat questions in 'Inbox' not showing

I enabled 'Inbox' for a survey with repeat questions. I added the field 'bind::esri:parameters' to my survey and set the value to allowUpdates=true query=’1=1’ in this column for my "begin repeat". I am able to view and edit my repeat questions from my "Sent box", but they do not show up when I access a survey from my 'Inbox'. Any suggestions?

For those encountering a similar issue to that described in the original post - I have found a solution that may be of relevance. I was using the 'external_choices' tab in my xls form as I was using a drop-down list that was some 5000 items long. However, when trying to view the value for that field in a submitted record in the Inbox, that field was showing up blank. Instead I added this list to a separate csv, saved it in the media folder for that form and then redirected the form to read the list from the csv as opposed to the external_choices tab and when I republished the issue was gone.

I am also experiencing the same issues as the original question posted here (using Survey123 Connect version 3.7.62). This is only happening with the nested repeat, all of the regular repeats seem to be working fine. I've tried "allowUpdates=true addUpdates=true query order by ${FrameNum}," "allowUpdates=true," and "allowUpdates=true query" in the bind::esri:parameters field. I attached my XLS in case that is helpful (the nested repeat that's causing problems is called "FrameDetails").

I am experiencing the same issues as the original question posted here with version 3.7.56. My survey does not contain nested repeats, or repeat counts. I have tried “allowUpdates=true”, “query allowUpdates=true”, “allowUpdates=true query” and even just “query” on the bind::esri:parameters field. I can view and edit my repeat question from the “sent” folder with no issues. From “inbox”, I can add new repeats, but I cannot even view the submitted repeat questions to edit them. What am I missing here?

Hi, I encountered the same issue with repeats but was able to resolve this using "query allowupdates=true". The information now pulls correctly into the inbox.

The issue now, is that edits to the related records via the Inbox are only allowed by the creator .i.e. If user1 creates a records User2 can only edit the parent record and certain related records. For example radio buttons are dimmed,

and text box are disabled. The only thing working is the Numeric key pads

The feature service setting allows all Editors to View and Edit all records.

Hi there- I'm noticing this issue too in my own survey, and I too have "allowAdds= True allowUpdates=true query" in the bind parameters column. When my field guys open up a submitted survey from the Sent folder, the data that they entered in the repeat block of the survey isn't there. The data is still in the feature service at least, but on their device they can't go back and see what they submitted in the repeat block of the survey. Did you figure out a solution or a workaround for this? Thanks!

Hi, I encountered an issue with Survey 123 about a month ago now. We need to do more data collection, so I'm searching for a solution.

The workflow is the following: I have a choice list that is dependent on an answer earlier in the survey. This choice list is in a repeat. In my example this choice list is habitat types. I also have questions in my repeat that deal with number of acres, and rate per acre. Calculations are done in the repeat and outside of the repeat. When finished with the survey they submit the survey and refresh their inbox. If they need to go back and update the survey with changes, all the calculations are still populated, but the answers for habitat types in my repeated choice list have disappeared. It acts like there has been not been a submission before. So I fill it out again and resubmit. However when I open the Hosted Feature Layer it duplicates my repeats. If I had three before, it will have six entries. I'm guessing this is because I reentered my repeats to submit my survey since these are required fields. Below is what it looks like when you reopen the survey to update. No habitat circle clicked, no multiple entries, but my Total payments by habitats is still populated.

In my survey on the begin repeat row I have this formula in the bind:esri:parameters column

allowAdds=true allowUpdates=true query

This used to work, but it seems not to work anymore. When I access my surveys through Survey123 for ArcGIS there are a number of them that will allow me to see my habitat responses in my choice list and there are a number of them that won't. I am suspecting these ones that don't are when we encountered the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Deon,

Using repeats with a survey using the Inbox should work. By default, repeats will be in an add additional repeats only mode. To edit repeats, you will need to add the keyword "allowUpdates" or "allowUpdates=true" to the bind::esri:parameters column of the XLSForm (possibly needing to add that column to surveys from before August 2017). Additionally, a filtering clause can be applied; see Prepare for editing existing survey data—Survey123 for ArcGIS | ArcGIS for more information.

Just to confirm: Using repeats in a survey and then opening that same survey from the inbox should work 100% now? I tried the above with the latest versions of the Survey123 software and cant seem to get it working. JTedrick-esristaff can you perhaps post a working sample of this? Or is there one on the Survey123 blog that i didnt see?

Thanks for the clarification, James. In fact I was just coming back here to update this thread with a report of success by simply entering the bare words

query allowUpdates

into the bind cell for the case where I don't need to filter anything coming back out during a refresh. Thanks for pointing out the formatting nuances when further filtering might be necessary.

In your XLS file, the parameters have

allowUpdates=true 1=1

You only should need

allowUpdates=true

the 1=1 is the default query and doesn't not to be there (and, as you noted in your comment, accompanied with the query= ).

Also note that single vs. double quotation marks matter in the case of the query; it should have been

query="1=1"

single quotes must be used for text inside a query, forcing double quotes only to encapsulate the query statement.

I have attached the XLSX for a super simple form that I use for Inbox Refresh testing with Repeats blocks. When I send the survey, I can see the attribute values in the main and related classes for the feature service. In fact I can edit attributes from the main survey and the related records in an Arcgis Online web map. However, when I refresh the Inbox in Survey123, I see the edit changes to attribute values in the main survey, but the repeats block is essentially empty as it is ready for data entry into the 1st record, even though the underlying feature service has more than one related record. In the bind::esri:parameters column on the begin repeat row I have tried it with allowUpdates=true and another time with allowUpdates=true 1=1, but neither time could I refresh previously submitted values back into the fields within the Repeats block.

JTedrick-esristaff‌ you mentioned that you had been able to have this work on an Esri test service. Do you see anything configured for the Repeats block in the XLSX that I have attached that is different from what you are doing? Also, is there anything else I can check configuration-wise on the feature service itself?

I am also trying Refresh previously submitted values in attribute fields contained in Repeats blocks on my survey form. In the bind::esri:parameters column on each begin repeat row, I have the value set to allowUpdates=true. But when I refresh, none of my Repeats blocks contain the previously submitted values. I did try the syntax shown in the initial post that also has query='1=1' but was receiving an error during the refresh so I went back to just allowUpdates=true. I do not have an Inbox filter set.

I did try enabling this setting on the Repeats blocks on a service that was already published. It was able to republish without overwriting the data. But I was wondering if I might to delete this service and publish from scratch. Bottom line, has anyone been able to get this capability working per the Survey123 documentation? Thanks for anyone who might be able to provide some additional configuration that I might be able to try.

I have the same issue now , running Survey123Connect version 2.5.44

I am using Feature Class in ArcSDE 10.4.1 and i followed all rules regrading related tables, but i cant see the "repeat" in INBOX.

the repeat shows in all other ESRI application such as arcGIS Desktop and PRO and even in OUTBOX of Survey123 Or collector but not in INBOX .

can any one tell me if it 's a bug or i did something wrong

The parameters you are providing are the correct ones. I'm not seeing the same issue on a test service. Can you check the feature service settings- are there any restrictions on viewing the repeats (only those you've created, etc)?
