For a given layer and symbol set, create a tool to allow each symbol to be selected and only have matching records symbolised.
Similar to the Data-driven pages but for Symbols.

Please go there and UPvote!!! Since they're not really moving on this, maybe PRO will provide more visible opportunity for ESRI to demonstrate responsiveness and attending to the voice of the customer. (fingers crossed)
This would be Fantastic! Pro makes using def queries a bit easier since you can turn them off without deleting the query entirely. Still, being able to toggle visibility like on the table of contents would save a lot of clicks drilling into menus and changing query values. Sure, five or six clicks of the mouse doesn't sound like a lot, but it definitely feels like it when you are in a meeting using Pro as the conversation tool to quickly show data in ways you couldn't anticipate ahead of time.
I'm using ArcGIS Pro 2.7, and have a request from a user that has me stumped.
I have a single feature class that has been symbolized by unique attribute values. However, the user wants to be able to toggle the individual attributes on and off, much like they do when they toggle a feature class on and off.
Is it possible to be able to toggle the symbolized items on and off in ArcGIS Pro? The only way I seem to be able to do this would be to enter separate feature classes in our geodatabase for each feature, but in this example that would mean adding 28 separate feature classes just so the user can turn them on and off during a discussion/meeting.
I'm just curious if ArcGIS Pro will allow me to set up a feature class to function this way.

This one's been kicking around since ArcMap, and I'm not aware of any movement on it despite how useful it would be. I might suggest scripting it by grabbing all the distinct attribute names then producing new layers in the aprx based on those, or get the user to make them manually!
Or hopefully someone has already done it and it's oven ready.
I think I'm more impressed that this question has been asked several times over the past 9 years 😆.

@Mark_Hotz I merged your idea with this existing idea that requests the functionality you're looking for.
For now, if the goal is to be able to just show 1 symbol class with all others off, and then switch to another, I'd recommend setting up a definition query for each. Then the Definition Query picker can be used to filter and show just a particular symbol class.

Thanks for the suggestion...this helps. I thought about a definition query but was wondering how much that might slow down the process when one creates dozens of them from one feature class. So at least I now know I'm not missing something major 😆. However, it's not like my data is a huge drain on the system either, so I'm sure definition queries will work well. I was just hoping that there would have been a built-in function (of which I was not yet aware) that would be able to handle this in ArcGIS Pro 😁. Perhaps one day I guess.
The only other alternative would be for me to add dozens of separate feature classes in our enterprise geodatabase, but that just causes a lot of unnecessary clutter...so I think the definition query is probably the best way to go.
Thanks for clarifying though...it's always great to get the opinions from others who have more experience with this than I do.

We need ability to make sublayers from already symbolized one layer in ArcGIS Pro (e.g. "Unique Values"). Users usually like to have data separated (able to turn On/Off symbolized layers) - especially if the layer is published to webmap. The workaround is to make with it the Definition query and then Copy layer, remove others values in symbology, name the copied layer after the symbol and so on, but only if symbology has a tolerable amount of symbology parts. If we need split like this layer with 15 or 30 types of symbology it is painful process. This button/tools would speed up our work with Pro. In general, we think that this functionality would mainly improve the ArcGIS software.
The tool can be named "Make sublayers from symbology".

I need this function to make it in Table of Contents (in Layers), because I need publish layer to Webmap with these "checkboxes". So I don't know if its merge to that idea.
@TanuHoque Thank you for the suggestion, it does what I mean, it works perfectly on Subtypes with integer values or Domains, but there is a limitation to geodatabase only and you must make new subtypes a named in and so on. But it is lightweight workaround.

I like to be able to turn on or off data within a layer, see attached file.
In QGIS you can turn on or off points within the same shapefile instead of having 37 different shapefiles if I work in ArcGis Pro.
Can what you're looking for not be accomplished with a Definition Query, a Display Query, or a combination of both? Definition Queries are utilized to select a subset of data without having to create a whole new file or manipulate your source data. I don't think it's applicable to your use-case, but Individual fields can also be made visible or not; this is more often used to hide data from end-users. Display queries are utilized to clean up an interactive map and make it more efficient to draw at different scales and enhance the UI / UX of published services.
NOTE: Edited shortly after my original post as the Display Query link pointed to the same link as the Definition Query. It should be fixed now, if not here
Yes, but the solution attached is simpler if you want to change more on the fly. Especially with data from other data sources when someone else have added all attributes and you dont have a good attribute to query.
But yes, your idea works as well 🙂
Hi, TommyLind, yes you can do this on ArcGIS.
What you are doing in QGIS is a categorized simbology, in Pro - Contents pane, right click your layer (rastplatser), simbology and select unique values for primary symbology, this option uses a field from the layer to categorize data, after that you will be able to turn on or off the categories, if you want to see a "layer" per point use the ID field.

One of my favorite features about QGIS over ArcGIS Pro or Desktop is the quick filter on any and all classified layers. I have been using ArcGIS for a very long time and can't believe Esri has not added this simple feature, unless I am just missing it. Please let me know if it needs to be enabled somewhere outside the app.

For non-GIS professionals, using ArcGIS Pro can be difficult. The two separate concepts of the layer legend/symbology vs. definition queries can be confusing.
I think novices would find it easier if they could simply toggle attributes on/off directly in the legend in the table of contents. That would make basic data exploration easier for beginners.
In this case, everything else was easy for the user, such as finding the data and adding it to the map. But doing basic filtering in ArcGIS Pro was cumbersome. They wanted to just check legend attributes on/off when exploring the data. But I don't think that's possible in ArcGIS Pro.
Could Esri consider adding a checkbox functionality in the table of contents? Maybe the underlying mechanism would be: the toggled checkboxes would automatically generate a definition query behind the scenes. Related: Progressive Disclosure of Complexity (YouTube 22:57).

We waited over 20 years for multiple layouts in 1 project file. So, 11 years doesn't seem so bad to me. I believe AutoCAD has had mulitple layouts since the late '90s, maybe sooner.
The best option I came up with is the filter option in symbology. I do like QGIS style better but this does have some benefits as well.

FEATURE_CLASS IN ('Populated Place', 'Rapids', 'Ridge', 'Summit')
This is such a good idea and I think it would be a really useful improvement to ArcGIS Pro (especially as you've been able to do this in QGIS for ages). This idea gets my full support, and hopefully it'll be implemented at some point soon.
