Portal Backup Files

Question

Hi Team,

I would like to seek suggestions from all of you regarding the portal default backup files. We have observed low storage availability on the drive where the Portal data directory is located.

Upon inspecting the directory, we noticed that files of the almost same size are being created daily in the backup folder (D:\arcgisportal\backup\walarchive), which appear to be generated automatically by the system i.e 00000001000000B900000008. I would like to confirm whether these files can be deleted manually without causing any disruption to Portal data or Portal services. Please advise on the recommended approach for managing these backup files safely.

I used Jake Skinner's post https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-enterprise-documents/automate-arcgis-enterprise-backup/ta-p/914090 to automate full and incremental backups. The incremental backups run daily, and the full backup runs once a week. The full backup clears out the walarchive folder each week, but the incremental backups mean I should only lose one day.

Jake's setup is for full backups only, but you can make a copy of the files and change the settings to do incremental backups. Then you just have to two tasks to setup in Windows Task Scheduler. One that runs once a week for the full backup, and the other runs daily (except for the day the full backup runs) for the incremental backup.
