ArcGIS API for JavaScript: 3.x or 4.x - why not both?

Abstract

The advent of the 4.x version of Esri’s ArcGIS API for JavaScript introduces new, exciting functionality and capabilities that allow developers to create even more powerful GIS applications with Esri’s technology.

Having invested time and effort into developing applications that rely on the 3.x version of the JavaScript API, companies are now faced with a question: how and when should we make the transition from 3.x to 4.x? The answer is not that straightforward. The 4.x APIs are not a feature-parity alternative to the 3.x APIs (yet) and you still need to offer compelling functionality to your users today

We focus on writing future-proof code. When our company was faced with the same question we decided to follow an approach that allowed us to write elegant, portable code that can run not only on top of both versions of Esri’s JavaScript API, but also to inside completely different applications (e.g. Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS 2D apps and 3D apps).

During our presentation we will go into the details of how we have addressed and solved the problem and show how other developers can get ready for the future by doing the same with their applications today.
