Terry,

I use Notepad++.  I downloaded the JSLint plugin, and am very happy with this environment.  All free.

I'll second Larry's suggestion of Notepad ++. It's great as it works well with many of the other file types you'll find yourself getting in to.

I have to say I have Notepad++ as well and I definitely prefer my Brackets IDE. Brackets has "Live Preview" for debugging and much more. But of course it come down to end user preference.
