This Arctool draw points observation data as vector lines in ArcGIS Shapefile format. It can be used to symbolize, for example, GPS velocity field, wind speed etc. The data needed is points feature class including attributes of East and North offset or degree from North and amplitude. V 1.2 version modification: A vector bearing option added. The tool can be downloaded at: https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=3d306ec2f8894dd3943722ea850cb331

Thanks for your instruction Melita. Yes, what I want is exactly the valid area of a coordinate system, so i know now it's called 'project horizon' (but a GCS also have a limit boundary by longtitude and latitude for -180 to 180 and -90 to 90 degree ). It's a pity that arcpy can't retrieve this value. Can i insert ArcObject codes in arcpy to get it?

Yes it's helpful. But in my situation, the spatial reference of the feature is unknown in advance, so I must have a method to get the limit extent and using that in my code to avoid the out of extent error.

Thanks for your responding Joe. My concern is the largest extent limit of any coordinate system, GCS or PCS. The problem arise from a practical problem, that is, when a polygon feature is create using ArcPy, the limit extent of the coordinate system may be exceeded and making the feature invalid.

I would like to get features spatial reference limitations of coordinate x and y by using snippet like: sr = arcpy.Describe('my feature').spatialReference dom=sr.domain.split() xmin=float(dom[0]) ymin=float(dom[1]) xmax=float(dom[2]) ymax=float(dom[3]) ... But it seems don't work. For a WGS84 GCS, the result is xmin=-180, xmax=180, ymin=-90 but ymax=270 rather than 90, and more strange result for a WGS84 PCS. Does sr.domain is not proper for my needs?

Hi Pedro-Don't bother to attach your data please. Now I got that your quakes feature is in a PCS with a linear unit of meter . So you can make beachballs of 25 km diameters by input Rad.m1 and Rad.m8 to 12500 . Default values, in degree for a WGS 84 GCS, is not proper for a WGS84 PCS, As mentioned in my first responding post to your comments. Thank you again for your using my tool. Wu Tiesheng

Hi Pedro, I am not sure yet why the tool plot very small beach balls with your data. The Rad.m1 decides radius of beachballs with magnitude M=1, and Rad.m8 for M=8,so the balls size will be proportional to magnitudes. You can set these two values as you like, just increasing these two values if your want larger balls. The only thing is that the tool doesn't care the linear unit of the coordinate system of your quakes cataloge feature. if you input Rad.m1 with 1, the tool plot beachballs of radius=1 for M1 quakes, which will be a 1m, 1 feet or 1 degree radius of balls according the linear unit of your quakes feature coordinate system. Could you attach a bit of your data and result? Wu Tiesheng

Hi Pedro, Thanks for your comments. We have two parameters to control the size of the balls and PT axes. That are Rad.m1 and Rad.m8. You can set these two paras deliberately. If the balls are too small, could the paras not be set properly? The default values are 0.025 and 0.1, the unit is degree for WGS84 GCS, measuring about 2.5 km and 10 km respectively. The responding values will be set to 2500 and 10000 m for a WGS84 PCS. Wu Tiesheng

Hi Asante, Yes, that fix my problem. Thank you very much for your patient instructions. My job is related with field survey. We taken a laptop with a GPS sensor in field which can show geological map in real time that greatly helpful for our job, but not so handy. Now I would like use my android mobile phone to do that job, so the next step is GPS function, inquiry and so on, that is a little difficult for me. I wonder whether Esri has a android version of ArcMap, if not, do you have that kind of code sample, and more importantly, where can I find systematical education materials for me. I am a little familiar with ArcPy but blank in JAVA and android SDK.

Hi Asante, the studio give the message " lamda expressions are not supported at this language level " , so I failed to implement the code above. The shapefile had been shared as a attachment in my original post.

Hi Asante, Thank you very much for your quick reply. I add the "featureLayer.loadAsync();" but the screen still keep blank. I replaced "ArcGISMap map = new ArcGISMap();" with "ArcGISMap map = new ArcGISMap(Basemap.createStreetsVector()); " , the app only show basemap with no my shapefile points.

Hi All, I am very new in ArcGIS Runtime SDK for Android 100.2.0. Android studio 3 platform is used to load a local shapefile in my android mobile, but nothing shown. MainActivity.java as below.
