One more thing. Could you use an ls ??l in the installation directory and the files would be owned by the user that installed the software.

My face is reddened with embarassment. From Step 4 in the install guide: "The ArcGIS Server account is the one you used when you installed the software. The installation makes this account the owner of all files that it places on the system" From Step 8 in the install guide: "The ArcGIS Server account is the account you used to install ArcGIS Server, not the primary site administrator specified when the ArcGIS Server site was created." http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/install-guides/arcgis-server-unix/10.1/index.html#/Making_your_data_accessible_to_ArcGIS_Server/00sz00000024000000/

You are right, there were three accounts, the admin and then the som and soc accounts at 10. At 10.1 there now only two accounts. Can you perform a check for the name of the ArcGIS Server Account? (Please don't make any changes and Cancel when finished.) Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > ArcGIS 10.1 for Server > Configure ArcGIS Server Account Is agsadmin the name listed for ArcGIS Server Account? Click Cancel. This account was created when ArcGIS 10.1 for Server got installed. The other account (Primary Site Administrator) was created when the Site was created. To confirm this, do you log into ArcGIS Server Manager with agsadmin?

Is it possible that for you agsadmin is your primary site administrator account you use to manage server and publish services? There a second account called the ArcGIS Server account which is usually a totally different account set up on installation, its the one that requires permissions to access data. In our training classes we call them agssite and agsos, respectively.

On the Geodatabase side of things, have you granted the ArcGIS Server Account read/write access to the FeatureDataset or FeatureClass? In Catalog, under database servers, under your geodatabase, right click the feature class point to Manage and click Privilages. Have you registered the database with the ArcGIS Server data store? In Catalog, under GIS Servers, right click on your server and click Server Properties. CLick the + to register your database there. Have you created a feature template in ArcMap before publishing? As you share, does Analyze show any warnings?

There was a similar discussion about this same topic: http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=213&f=2455&t=285205 Also the 39.37 represents the number of Inches in 1 meter. DPI * 39.37 would result in the number of dots per meter.

Just an FYI, This question is similar to one addressed/answered by the 2011 Esri User Conference Q and A here: http://events.esri.com/uc/QandA/index.cfm?fuseaction=answer&conferenceId=DD02CFE7-1422-2418-7F271831F47A7A31&questionId=3963

Hi Mark, You didn't mention having Esri's Business Analyst, but that is exactly what that product/extension is used for. It has tools to help define the site trade areas and determine if any are canabalizing each other. Then there are tools to rank potential sites. You have 50 potential sites, rank them in order based on attributes of your best performing sites. I teach the two day Business Analyst class so I could go on and on. Since you may not have Business Analyst, there is a simple poor-man's technique you might try. Take your sites and create Theissen polygons, you will find the tool in ArcToolbox. It will create equal competition polygons around all the sites. You might try this regionally instead of nationwide at first. The polygons will form a honeycomb like pattern that looks cool. But what you can do now is look at where 3 or 4 polygons meet. Say you find a point where 4 polygon corners come together. Well that spot is really far from 4 of your sites. It could be a potential spot for a new site since it is so far from all the others. Problems though. That spot could be in the middle of a water body or mountain range were there are no people. However if it is in the middle of a highly populated area, then you might look at that area more to see if it also has the demographic mix of your best customers. If you had Business Analyst you could look at consumer spending data for your site's product mix to then also see if that area is spending on your products already. And of course what about your competition and their locations. Should be interesting. Rob

Which service are you using? And what scale would you like to zoom in to? May be one of the other ArcGIS Online services could work better for you. Using the one below I can zoom in to Houston and see building footprints for residential homes. http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Street_Map/MapServer I hope this helps?
