Ok, I see what you mean now. The "Web Part Tools" tab is provided by the SharePoint infrastructure as part of a web part - this is not something that is specific to the Map Web Part. Functionality specific to the Map Web Part is grouped under the "ArcGIS Map Web Part" tab. So the "Insert Related List" button on the ribbon does not work with the Map Web Part. Join functionality of the sort you're asking for is not there in the current version of the software, but it is something that we are considering for a future release. It may be, however, that this functionality will only support one-to-one relationships to begin with.

Hi Jason: Yes, you've missed configuration steps. This is the behavior when you do not add the necessary entries to the web.config file and/or do not configure IIS on your web server to serve the Silverlight MIME types. Please refer to the Prerequisites topic in the help. Once you have done this, the map will appear in the web part inside the browser as you expect. The right-click functionality you are reporting is based on Silverlight's out-of-browser capabilities. While, as you have found, some of this functionality slipped into the 1.1.1 software, this mode of operation is not a supported part of the product. FYI, when your organization is able to move to SharePoint 2010 and version 2.0 of ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint, these configuration steps will no longer be required. There is also a great deal of functionality available (geoprocessing, extensibility, theming - just to name a few) that is not available at version 1.1.1.

Once you get the values back from the SharePoint list, you'll need to convert them to strings before adding them to the attributes collection. For instance, if memory serves, SharePoint hyperlink fields come back with two values - one for the description, one for the URL. If you want to show the URL in the pop-up, you'll need to extract this value as a string and put this in the attributes collection. As to selection, you should get this as part of adding your graphics layer to the map. Note however, if you are defining the symbol programmatically, you'll have to make sure that the symbol has a selected state. Hope this helps.

Hi Peter: I'm not sure what you mean. There are not any commands for inserting related lists that are part of ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint. Could you perhaps explain a bit more?

Hi Chad: I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're having trouble with. You should be able to access any of the fields in the list using SharePoint's Silverlight Client OM as shown in the samples. If you're having difficulty constructing the CAML query, you could try the U2U CAML Query Builder. I haven't tried it against 2010 myself, but many folks online say it still works. Which makes sense, given that it communicates using SharePoint's asmx services, where are still there at 2010. As to getting links into a graphics layer, if you add a URL to a graphic's attributes collection, it should show up as a hyperlink in the graphic's pop-up (i.e. when you hover over it). Hope this helps.

Hi Scott: I'm not sure exactly what you mean by your first question - the "toolbar" is integrated with the SharePoint ribbon and the title is part of the web part. So the Map Web Part's ribbon tabs will be rendered whereever the SharePoint ribbon is. You can move the ribbon by editing the aspx page's markup. The title shown above the web part cannot be moved, but it can be changed or hidden. Is this what you're asking about? As to the rest, the answer is basically no. Version 2.0 of ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint cannot be localized. We are planning to make 2.1 localizable, but right-to-left probably will not be supported yet.

Releases of the web APIs are not tightly bound to releases of ArcGIS Server. So while some releases may be timed closely with those of ArcGIS Server (to allow you to leverage new server functionality in your web API apps), they are not necessarily so. This is especially the case with service packs, where any new functionality in the server, if present at all, is usually very limited. As I'm sure you know, 2.1 is currently in beta. Final will be released soon.

SharePoint Server (Enterprise and Standard) includes the same services as SharePoint Foundation, plus additional edition-specific services. Since the product works on all SharePoint 2010 editions, the check is just looking for the Foundation services. The installer checks the registry as part of this step - do you have permission to access the registry? You can do a quick check of this by going to Start --> Run --> regedit. If the Registry Editor does not open or you cannot browse keys in the registry, then you do not have the required permissions to install the product. You will either need an administrator to grant you permissions or have an administrator run the install. Hope this helps.

João - you should not be seeing that issue with 2.0. You need to uninstall version 1.x and remove the 1.x configuration lists (you can find a list of the 1.x configuration lists here). Note that your 1.x web parts will no longer work - you will need to create new Map Web Parts for version 2.0. Also, at version 2.0, there is no longer a Geolist Web Part; the attribute table functionality has been embedded within the Map Web Part. Hope this helps.

Version 2.0 of ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint has been released. 2.0 is built specifically for SharePoint 2010 and includes many new features and enhancements. If you are using SharePoint 2010, please uninstall version 1.1.1 and go get version 2.0 from the Resource Center - http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapps/sharepoint.

It could be that you are not using the right kind of Bing account - Bing provides at least a couple different kinds of accounts for working with different APIs. To create an account for use with ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint, follow these steps: Create a Microsoft Windows Live ID. You can use an existing Live ID account if you already have one. Log in on the MapPoint Web Service Developer Account signup page with your Windows Live ID. Create a new Bing Maps developer account by clicking the "Request Evaluation Developer Account" link and note the email address you provided. The Bing Maps account administrator will send you your new account ID and instructions to complete your registration by providing a password. Once registration is completed, you can verify your account is active by using the Verify Credentials page in the Bing Maps Customer Services site. Use your Windows Live ID to log in to the Customer Services site. This information is available in this help topic. There is a good deal of other useful information available in the help as well. Hope this helps.

Hi Jeff: In your case, if you need to show all 48,000 features on the map, you should add the root map service, rather than the individual layer within the map service. Or if you need the client-side functionality (pop-ups, interactive table, symbology configuration), then you may want to consider separating out your dataset into more digestable chunks. The basic problem is that this is simply too many data points for the browser to render with a rich visualization (i.e. high fidelity mapping). At the current release, the product is not able to retrieve features that are just within in the current extent. So the main options that occur to me are (a) use the map service, which the browser can easily handle because the service just returns a few image tiles for each map extent, or (b) break up your dataset into finer-grained subsets. Hope this helps.

Hi Kulz: ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint supports Bing and ArcGIS Server geocoding services. With Bing, Microsoft provides the services. With ArcGIS Server, you can use the geocoding services hosted by ArcGIS Online, available publicly on other sites, or hosted by your organization. The Map Web Part supports geocoding with any ArcGIS Server geocoding service. Hope this helps.

Warren - if you navigate to http://appmapodev/clientaccesspolicy.xml and http://appmapodev/crossdomain.xml from a client machine, do these files load in the browser? If not, then these are not accessible from the client. The may not be in the right location for the server, or you may need to adjust the access settings on the IIS website. Michael - I would not characterize the settings specified by the example policy files as opening up a huge security hole. What they do is allow any services hosted on the IIS website to be accessed by any Silverlight client, regardless of the domain of the Silverlight client. Whether this is a problem depends mainly on what the services expose - opening up editing operations, for instance, could be undesirable. In Warren's case, this will allow any Silverlight client, including the Map Web Part, to access the ArcGIS Server REST endpoints available over port 80 of the ArcGIS Server machine, and it will also open up other services on that port for Silverlight client access, if any exist. Bear in mind that the policy files are just extending web service access to Silverlight clients. If the service endpoints are already available publicly on an external server, then clients implemented using other technologies (e.g. ASP.NET, JavaScript, Flash, etc) already have unfettered access to those services. That said, I agree that the document referenced above should include information on the implications of adding the policy files with the settings shown in the example.
