Yup. The process of registering a Web Adaptor with a Portal will fail if another web adaptor has been previously registered. The registration screen will throw an error indicating the issue. The Server Web Adaptor must set at anonymous if federating through that web adaptor.

Hi All, I'd like to take a moment to promote the new ArcGIS for Server Security Update 2 Patch, released just yesterday. This update may be found here: http://support.esri.com/en/downloads/patches-servicepacks/view/productid/66/metaid/2300 This patch is available for the final releases of each version, meaning 10.2.2 and 10.3.1. Esri recommends that all customers using ArcGIS Server 10.2.2 and 10.3.1 apply this patch. Customers who are using 10.2 or 10.2.1 should first apply 10.2.2. Customers who are using 10.3 should first apply 10.3.1. Note that to preserve conflicts for users with previously installed patches and fixes, the security patch includes many other fixes in addition to traditional ‘security’ issues. Details regarding the fixes included in this update are documented in the patch documentation referenced above.

@Jacob Boyle above is correct. When you use IWA the assumption is that you're going to want Single Sign-On. SAML is the way to go in this case.

Hi Paul, Thanks for that excellent response. In terms of stand-alone portal, the same rule applies. That said, I haven't personally tested what happens after federation or what happens if data store is installed. Before I speak to these questions, I'm going to test this scenario in my sandbox and follow up. I strongly suspect that a name change is going to break a lot of these workflows from this standpoint. Thinking about this deeper and playing it out in my head, the data store component seems like it might be challenging to deal with. So does changing hostnames when the server is federated with a Portal. This is good conversation. I'll follow up.

We're working around this by updating the web.config as: <system.webServer> <httpProtocol> <customHeaders> <clear /> <add name="X-UA-Compatible" value="IE=11" /> </customHeaders> </httpProtocol>

Hi Paul, Can you elaborate on this observation? We support server hostname changes for Server and Portal. Typically the only thing action items required are to re-generate/reapply certificates and re-register the web adaptor to use the new hostname. I'd like to understand more about any challenges you may be experiencing. Common problems and solutions—Documentation (10.4) | ArcGIS for Server

Got it. Sounds like you may be working with a utility. Schneider may have provided you this guidance, but you'll want to install this patch: ArcGIS 10.2.1 for (Desktop, Engine, Server) Utilities and Telecom Update 5 Patch | Samples and Utilities

Yes, there is a mismatch. You'll need to get installation media for the web adaptor 10.3.1. It should be available in the Esri customer care portal.

Are you using Data Store for ArcGIS or are you working with another RDBMS? Do you see any errors in either the server or the portal logs with regard to this issue? When you publish directly to the GIS Server, are features copied into your server managed database?

Hi, Are there dependencies on 10.2.1 for your 3rd party applications? I'd like to understand the rationale behind upgrading to 10.2.1 rather than the newer releases - we're currently on 10.4 and are finalizing 10.4.1. If you haven't seen it already, this documentation may be helpful as you migrate: Migration checklist—Documentation | ArcGIS for Server Migrating ArcGIS Server 10.0 to later versions—Documentation | ArcGIS for Server What to expect when migrating ArcGIS Server 10.0 to later versions—Documentation | ArcGIS for Server Unless a bit of downtime for your existing site can be scheduled, I'd strongly suggest a parallel upgrade in your virtual environment so that you can 'flip the switch' for a relatively seamless move.

HI Adam, In general, the geodatabase is the last in the stack to be updated because clients are backward compatible but may not be forward compatible. This isn't quite the same as upgrading the RDBMS - I'm speaking specifically to the geodatabase version. That said, keep in mind that SQL Server 2008 in particular is no longer supported at 10.4. This can be addressed by upgrading the SQL server native client or the SQL Server rdbms itself. Note that while 10.4 clients will be able to connect to a geodatabase on SQL 2008, the geodatabase cannot be subsequently upgraded and new geodatabases cannot be created from those 10.4 clients. This KB speaks specifically to this issue: Problem: After upgrading to ArcGIS 10.4 for Server, existing services that use data in geodatabases in SQL Server no longer work http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/46427

At 10.2, this error can happen when a user makes a request to a web service that doesn't actually exist. I've also seen this when editor tracking is misconfigured. How are you reproducing this issue?

That's correct. The domains need to be in the same forest, and you'll need to update the security config JSON to point to your global catalog server.
