So one possible solution is to go to the ArcGIS 2D Style and scroll down to the Gray 60% (Transparent) symbol and select that one first. You'll see your polygon symbolized as 60% transparent and a gray color.  Next, in the Symobology Pane, click the Properties tab near the top and change the Outline width to 1 pt or similar. Next click the color dropdown where the gray symobology is and select Color Properties.  In the Color Editor, type in your Red Hex # code for red - like FF0000 - and change the Transparency to 75%.  Click OK.  Your Map View then should reflect the black line and red polygon with the transparency. In ModelBuilder, you can run a single tool by right clicking on the tool and selecting Run.  Or a sequence of tools.  And of course, the entire model.  Reference the Help doc here.   Another option is to select the new steps in the model and create a group.  From there, you could save the group as a new model and debug there. A third option is to export to a Python script and test the workflows there to see if it throws an error message. But as far as disabling steps in the model, I don't know of a way to do that. ...
