It depends on the shape of the river versus the road, but still 1 mile is still quite large even in this case. I would double-check the projection and make sure you are using a projection that provides a good representation of the true length. Christine Dartiguenave Esri Water Resources Team

The Drainage Area associated to a drainageline is the sum of the area of its associated catchment and adjointcatchment. So if you have these 3 feature classes you can go ahead and run the tool to populate the DrainageArea for the lines. Christine Dartiguenave Esri Water Resources Team

David, You may want to try the latest version of Arc Hydro. We have upgraded the code for that function to deal with some data related issues (size, etc.) and maybe this will fix your issue as well. Christine Dartiguenave Esri Wate Resources Team

This depends on how you are defining the contribution (flow) generated by each stream. Flows usually depend from multiple parameters: contributing area, precipitation, etc. If you have the equations and the underlying data to compute the flows (or some know flows) you could use the flows directly to assess the contribution. Otherwise you need to decide how to define the "contribution" you are going to use to rank the streams (e.g. contributing area). Christine Dartiguenave Esri Water Resources Team

You may have some bad IDs in your AdjointCatchment feature class. The delineation tool performs first a local delineation within the catchment associated to your input point and merges the resulting shape with the associated AdjointCatchment feature. Rerun the AdjointCatchment Processing tool to regenerate the AdjointCatchment feature class. This should fix your issue. Christine Dartiguenave Esri Water Resources Team

You may have some incorrect IDs in your AdjointCatchment feature class. The delineation is done through a 2-step process: 1. Local delineation within the extent of the Catchment in which your point is located (this is probably your current end result) 2. If your point is located on a DrainageLine/Str, the local delineation is merged with the related AdjointCatchment feature. If you rerun Adjoint Catchment Processing you should be able to get the correct delineations. Christine Dartiguenave Esri Water Resources Team

The Longest Flow Path for Catchments tool is pretty intensive and running it on this number of catchments will take a very long time. It does run on selected set however so you may be able to process by part. Why do you need to define lfps for all the catchments? Usually catchments should be defined using the 1% threshold rules and should be in the hundreds. They are used to optimize performance. Having too many of those defeat the purpose. How many adjoint catchments are you going to end up with for characterization? You may be better off defining lfp for each adjoint directly. Christine Dartiguenave Esri Water Resources Team

It looks like the culprit is the auxiliary grid file. If a projection is specified in that file, it will be used to update the prj file when the grid gets added to ArcMap. This file is usually located in the same directory as the grid directory (as long as it is writable) and named grid.aux.xml where grid is the grid name. It contains information associated to the grid that cannot be stored with the grid itself. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/...00000027000000 You can set the correct zunit in the auxiliary file by using the geoprocessing tool Define Projection and specifying the Z Coordinate System as well. Then either pick an existing one or create your own. In the Vertical Coordinate System Properties window you will have the option to specify 1/ZUnit under Linear Unit. You can pick an existing unit (e.g. feet, decimeter, etc.) and see the corresponding value for 1/zunit (e.g. centimers = 0.01 meters/centimeters corresponding to zunit=100 in projection file). The tool will edit both the auxiliary file and the xml. Christine Dartiguenave Esri Water Resources Team

Arc Hydro edits the ArcGIS configuration file ArcMap.exe.Config (located in the ArcGIS installation directory, e.g. "C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.1\bin\ArcMap.exe.Config") during its installation. It appends an <appSettings> section with all the entries listed below and in particular. <add key="ESRI.APWR.SaveXMLInMap" value="true" /> If this key is not found then the xml will be saved to the disk when the mxd is saved. Reinstalling Arc Hydro should fix the issue or you can append the section below in your config file. We will look into modifying this behavior so that the xml does not get created if the node is not found.
