Well, using a view is a bust. The web map and subsequently any web mapping app can't use it. To clarify though, the web map can see the view as a stand alone table but that doesn't buy me anything. The end user must be able to click points on the map and see the contents of the view as they relate to an given clicked on point. So I did a join in arcmap between the view and the point feature class. Works flawlessly in arcmap. I can edit a point, change the values for columnA and columnB and see columnC in the view update automatically based on the math formula. AGOL doesn't support joins in the mxd... You have to do a "field join" which literally appends the joined field onto your feature class, which defeats the purpose here since I'm using the view to create and autopopulate a calculated field. So, it seems attempting to do anything other than using fields directly from a feature class is not supported and won't work. So, back to square one. I'll look at that attribute assistant next. #runningoutofoptions

Thanks for all the comments. I'm working with the "view" right now to see if that will work but have also downloaded that Attribute Assistant and will check that out today.

The field workers only care about column a and column b. The view will take care of column c, which is the column that our web viewer community cares about.

I've got one possible solution to this. My DBA has written a view in Oracle which has what amounts to that "derived field" in the view. He also added the globalID field as GUID in the view so I can create a relationship class in arcgis and display that derived field back out to my end users. Will report back if that does the trick.

I have a point feature class that has two numeric columns that my field workers will populate. I need to somehow have third column auto-populate based on a math formula between those first two columns. In the days of "the coverage" you could do this via a "virtual column" or "derived field". Seems that this is not possible in the GDB. FAQ: Are Computed/Virtual columns supported in an Enterprise environment in ArcGIS? Is there any way to do this? I can't imagine that the only way is to manually go in and use the "field calculator" or jimmy up some sort of scheduled python script. That just doesn't make any practical sense as my field workers will be in and out all day, days on end and our reporting needs to have that third field up-to-date at all times. What am I missing here? We are in the 21st century right? (I kid, but I'm frustrated). Thanks, Royce

Ok, I've moved the toolbox to an fgdb and zipped it. See my OP for attached zip.

I have modeled the three variables as parameters. When I open the model, the input dialogue comes up and I'm able to enter the parameters values, but when I execute the model I get the above error. Trying to figure out how to attach the toolbox.

I've got a model that has several string input variables that I'd like to use as initial model dialogue text inputs but I can't seem to get it to work. If I "edit" the model and supply the variable values for each of the blue variable bubbles and then run the model from within an edit session, it works fine. When I close out the edit session and try to open/run the model by first filling in the dialogue for the two variables I get the following error: "ERROR 000110: GIS.%variable1%%variable2% does not exist." String Variable 1 (incident name) and string variable 2 (incident date) are used for the output name of the output feature class that I want to create using a merge tool. So the output feature class name would be "gis.incidentblabla7_14_16". What's the trick to getting modelbuilder to play nice with that open dialogue and model variables?

Also, adding to my comment/question... At this time we see no business need in our org to use Portal but do and will use Server and AGOL. It seems to me that ArcGIS Pro will force Server users to implement Portal at some point. Is that a fair stayement to make?

I've got a locally hosted WAB app that uses time slider functionality. That widget is configured to be open and working when the app is first initialized. For some reason, the correct functionality happens about 50% of the time that the user fires up the app. What can I do to fix this? Here's the URL to the app: Larimer County ArcGIS Web Application -Royce

Looks like this widget doesn't play nice with the "launchpad" theme. If you place the widget in the "actionbar" controller, it opens ok but then doesn't close properly and the yellow diamond is left on the screen. Any way to fix this so it can work properly with this theme?

I'm having the same issue but with a different non-decimal-degrees basemap. I'd think the only reasonable solution is to make sure the basemap is in dec/degrees, which makes perfect sense. If that can't be helped then we are SOL... aside from doing a lot of pushups for a workaround.
