Thanks for confirming with a different project. The issue must be specific to your project. So you are saying that with your problem project, you are saying that EVERY time you create, save, close, reopen a map series, it's settings go away. As a test and an attempt to strip the problem, could you try saving your layout to a PAGX file via the share tab. Then load that pagx into a new project. Try your map series persistence again. Thanks, Jeff

Theodore, Before you go through all that work, are you absolutely sure the settings are not being saved? I can NOT reproduce and I have many projects that have a map series. Try: - new blank project - insert map, add simple poly layer - insert layout, add map frame - create a spatial series map pointing to added layer and use default. - save project. close. reopen.

Hello, we appreciate your feedback. The Layout team is very interested in learning more about your requirements. Please provide more detail on your exact workflow so we can better understand why you want to link map views with map frames in a layout view. Here is why it works the way it does: 1) Map views are simply a "viewer" (window) for the layers in a map. A map view has its own camera information (i.e., center position, scale, etc). You can create multiple map views for the same map (or different maps). These were designed to be independent of map frames in a layout (which also preserve their own, independent camera information). In ArcMap, users often expressed concern that if they changed the extent, scale, etc of their map (in data view), the layout (view) would get affected. Therefore we separated the two types of "views". 2) Layouts support map frames which are also a type of "viewer" to layers in a map. You also can have multiple map frames in a layout and those map frames can be "linked" so if the camera information is changed in one map frame, other map frames will update. The way you do this is to set the map frame constraints via the map frame pane --> Display Options tab. There are many options (e.g., Fixed Extent, Linked Map Frame Extent, etc). In summary, the problem with linking map views and map frames: You can have multiple map views (of the same map) and multiple layouts, each with multiple map frames (possibly pointing to the same map) in a single project. The scenario can get quickly out of hand. Again, please provide a detailed workflow so we can evaluate your scenario. Jeff

Hello Theodore, I'm on the map series team. This should certainly not happen. Please try again. If you can reproduce, please send a project package (ppkx) to me at [email protected]. Thanks, Jeff

Some undocumented capabilities were included with 2.0 but the fully supported Layout API for creating and adding layout elements is planned to be available for 2.1.

We have not developed the MapSeries class for arcpy.mp yet. We have it planned for 2.1 or 2.2 (depending on resources and time). We also plan on providing the ability to author a map series using arcpy.mp rather than being limited to working with an existing setup. Jeff Barrette (Esri - arcpy.mp team)

As a follow-up, I examined the data and I don't think this particular issue has to do with ExportToPNG. The annotation symbolIDs for each annotation element did NOT exist in the symbol collection and is why they were appearing as red rectangles. When I recalculated the IDs to match something that did exist, both export from CURRENT and stand-alone worked as expected. Yusuf is looking into why the correct symbols are not in the collection. I can not reproduce with my own data. Would it be possible for you to send a map package to [email protected]? I'm hopeful it is an isolated issue. ExportToPNG has been around for a long time. Thanks, Jeff

ArcGIS Pro has the same capabilities as ArcMap. We give you the option to remove the service layer credits (SLCs) that appear in the map frame so you can place them somewhere on the layout rather that having the credits potentially obscure the content in the map. Keep in mind that those credits are there for legal reasons. Removing them from the layout or making the text transparent, etc defeats the purpose of the credits. They should be on the layout. Steps: 1) With the layout view active, select the insert tab. 2) Within the Text group, click the Dynamic Text pulldown control 3) In the Layout section, click on Service Layer Credits. This will extract the credits from the map frame and place the same information into a paragraph text element on the layout. If you have multiple map frames with different basemaps, all credits are concatenated.

Richard, we are looking into this and have created a bug: BUG-000099429. Hopefully we'll be able to address this for Pro 1.4. In the meantime, I hope navigating the pages is a faster way to generate a refresh. Jeff

Hello Richard, I'm looking into your issue. Instead of having to reset the layer properties, have you tried navigating to a different page? I can reproduce the issue you describe but as soon as I go to a different page, the page query is showing the correct result in the layout. I'm not suggesting this is correct behavior but want to know if you see the same thing I see. Jeff (Layout Team)

Thanks for sending your data! I was able to reproduce the problem. The issue is when you export to a pagx file and then import it back into a project, the Layout --> Properties --> Page Setup --> Units control is not set. The easy fix is to manually set this value. If you set this to "millimeters", in your example, the elements should display correctly. We will should be able to address this for the next release. Thank you!

Creating new layout elements in Pro is currently not possible. There are future plans to accommodate this requirement but it won't happen during the 1.3 or 1.4 releases.
