the database was not found... error suggests that there is some path that is being looked for in the script that doesn't exist on his computer. uncheck "find closest feature" You can find the closest later, since the closest may only be in one layer and not in the other. If no Search Radius is specified and Find only closest features is unchecked (closest set to ALL in Python), and Maximum number of closest is left to default (0 or empty), the output table will contain distance calculations between all input features and all near features. This kind of process can take quite a long time and can create a large output table. For example, if you have 1,000 input features and 1,000 near features, the output table will contain 1,000,000 records.

Marta, I think you need to contact Tech Support. You will notice in my blog that I don't let Pro install where it wants by default, I created a separate folder in a spaceless path (ie c:\arc_pro). I have full administrative rights on the machine, so clearing everything out related to esri products and reinstalling again the way I want to isn't an issue. This may not be your case, so having someone from Tech Support walk through it on you machine might be the quickest solution.
