Basic GIS query!

Hi

I'm sure there is a very simple solution to this so here goes...

I have three layers in ArcMap 10

1. U.K Coastline
2. Onshore oil well points
3. UK Roads

All I wish to achieve is to determine the overall average distance between the wells and roads.

How do I achieve this?

Hi,

You can use the "Generate Near Table" function using the well points as the input and your roads as the near features.  The output table will give you the distance from all the well points to the nearest road.  From the table, you can simply summarize the distance field using the mean statistic. See the help for this tool below:
