Sorry for the basic question. I mostly work on maps within US boundary. I am trying to work on maps within Australia continental boundary, but the basemap only shows North America, South America, and western Europe. The projections of the basemaps are WGS84, so I'm not sure what I am doing wrong?

Are you working with the entire country, just a part?

The tighter you can make your projection to the area you are working the better.

The projections are there it is just that a lot of them don't show up but can be found by wkid

https://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/018z/pdf/projected_coordinate_systems.pdf

But try 4283 as it covers all states.

3857 is good if you want to put your work online or include things from other parts of the world.
