Whenever I run ModelBuilder on a semi-large dataset (900MB) it crashes.  Any advice on how to make it not crash? I closed ArcMap and my internet explorer tab to save on memory before running the tool and it still crashed. Thanks so much.

What version of ArcGIS are you using? Which OS (Windows 7/64-bit?), and how much memory do you have installed?

I am using ArcGIS 10.2.1, and windows 8.1 (about to upgrade to 10). See below for my processor info.  I just bought this laptop with the express purpose of running large GIS projects on it.

Hi Natalie,

Could you attach a snapshot of error message in Geoprocessing results?

Since I was running it in ModelBuilder there was no Geoprocessing log.  Below is my model.

Hi Natalie,

1) Work with a file geodatabase instead of shapefiles.

2) Make sure the coordinate system of the participating feature classes are same.

3) Make sure the pathname of the input and output features are short.

Let me know if any change in the behaviour of the model.

Hi Jayanta,

Thank you for all the suggestions.  I tried all of them, and still run out of memory.  I have set up Python code for running a Closest Facility Analysis, and this is the message I continue to get:

ERROR 030024: Solve returned a failure.

Out of memory.

Failed to execute (Solve).

I had my computer's Task Manager open while the Python code was running, and it showed that only 7.0/15.9 GB (44%) of Memory was being used.  It seems my computer is not using all available memory for running this?
