Hello, I'm a college student studying Geospatial Applcations. I have an assignment where the class was given a geodatabase and our deliverables are to create a model to summarize  a field. The field is a text and it would be preferable to take that field and change its data type to an integer to summarize that new field. I would appreciate any help in how to take an existing field and make a new one with a different data type.

Jonathan,

You can easily add a new field with numeric field type.  Then just calculate the value of the field from the existing field.  Then you should be able to summarize it.

This can all be done using ArcCatalog and the toolbox.

Tom

Thank you so much Tom. In terms of a model i would take input and create new field then from that output calculate the value then summarize it. Many thanks.
