Other than commercial data, which may be out of your budget, you might try visiting the websites for individual cities and counties and see if they have a GIS link. Occasionally, cities/counties will have their data available to download for free, and sometimes they have building data. In my experience, building footprint data is not as readily available as street data, land use, etc. I hope you have some luck locating what you need.
