How to import .gz files into shapefiles

I'm trying to import the OS mastermap topography into GIS, however I cant seem to extract the .gz files correctly. I've been using 7zip to extract them into shapefiles but every time I do it, it turns them into a plain file with nothing attached. 

I will attach an example of a .gz file.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but any help would be appreciated.

Hi Ross,

I recently ran into the same problem. After I had extracted the .gz files using 7-zip, there seemed to only be an empty folder. However, when I used 7-zip again on the empty folder, aka extracting one more time, the files appeared in the folder ready to use.

I ran into the same problem. Were you able to import the files in arcgis?
