Hello All,

I would like some help when setting up a map layout so that I can automate the listing of shapefile attributes based on which ones are visible in the data frame.  An example of this would be when creating a USGS map that may have multiple USGS Quads visible in the view.  I am often asked to list the quad names visible in the map and this would make it easier.  I have the quads as polygon shapes with their names as attributes inserted behind a base map that has WMS data as a contunuous DRG.  See the included graphic below to get an idea as to what I am looking for.  Thanks in advance for any help with this.  I am using ArcGIS Ver 10, not 10.1

I think you are asking for a dynamic legend to only list the tiles in the current map extent.

If you have ArcGIS 10.1 you could try the following:
In your symbology for the layer you might need to select the appropriate field and use the unique value option and add all values.

Then in the layout you can use the new dynamic legend functionality.
