The hello world of arcgis

Hello forum,

I'm very interested in Computer Science and after having some experience with object oriented programming I would like to learn how to use java and Arcgis.
I really don't have any "uses" for it, therefore what would be a good application which introduces me to using ArcGIS alongside with java, for application making.

I'd start with the add-in tutorials at:

There are some "Hello World" programs there that will get you up and running. The same site has more detailed materials on application development.
