To me, the license scheme for ArcGIS Runtime SDK is a bad design, it will kill ARS, few users or developers would think a serious effort to do somethingn for prod when you have the license by deployment worry in mind.

It got to have an option to tie the license to the ArcGIS server for the web-enabled deployment,  leave the standalone licensed by deployment only.

Otherwise,  how soon it will die, it is only a matter of time.

Hi Jeff,

We're always keen to hear feedback on technical and licensing matters to do with the runtime.  If there is something we can do to improve matters then this is a good place to put your suggestions forward.

It's probably worth me pointing you at the following link.

http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/runtime/pricing

If you are planning an application which is purely consuming services from ArcGIS Server or ArcGIS Online, then you will be using the "Basic" option.

Does this help?

Thanks Mark.

A question, sounds like ArcGIS Runtime SDK is only distributed through EDN, If not an EDN subscriber yet, how we can get access to the SDK download ?  a free developer version for evaluation is available?

Thanks agian,

Jeff

One more question to ask, trying to figure out the license requirement for the deployment scenario when ArcGIS Runtime SDK is only deployed as a client, which consums services we have on ArcGIS servers, no local standalone functions are required...

for example, for the Network Analyst function, even though we only need to consume the NA services we published on the internal ArcGIS sever, we still need the standard license ?

Thanks.

Hi Jeff:

The WPF and Java versions of the ArcGIS Runtime SDK can be downloaded by logging into the Customer Care Portal with your EDN subscription credentials. We do not offer a free trial version of the product at this time, unfortunately. You can, however, download and run the WPF SDK's Sample Viewer Application for Windows, which is loaded with really good samples and code:

The Java version should be ready for download soon.

If you are interested in evaluating and giving feedback on our ArcGIS Runtime SDK for Qt/C++, you can log into the beta community site and download the 10.2 beta. All you need is an Esri global ID:

Regarding your application deployment scenario, as long as your application is a client for accessing ArcGIS Services only, and is not accessing data or functionality local to the device, you can deploy your application with a BASIC-level license. This allows you to distribute the application as many times as you want, free from having to pay for those deployments.

Your questions are good ones, and I hope you find this info helpful.
