The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is excited to advertise a Geographer/Cartographer (Term) position in their Flagstaff, AZ office at the GS-9 to 11 level. The successful candidate will join a group of geologists in the Geology, Minerals, Energy, and Geophysics (GMEG) Science Center focused on better understanding the geologic evolution of the Lower Colorado River region through geologic mapping.
This is primarily a GIS position that will contribute to an ongoing effort to produce seamless digital geologic maps of the Lower Colorado River region. The main job duties include:
- Oversee the management of a large GIS data library
- Provide GIS technical expertise and support to project scientists
- Assist in the preparation of geologic map databases and cartographic products
- Automate GIS workflows to support and improve efficiency
- Research and implement emerging software and hardware technologies that are beneficial to the compilation, management, and analysis of geologic information
Flagstaff is a moderate-sized mountain city in northern Arizona, situated at about 7,000 ft elevation known for its vibrant community and proximity to a range of outdoor recreational opportunities.
