Tacoma Water's Business Services Section is establishing an eligible list for IT Analyst, Senior Technical - GIS Developer which will be used to fill vacancies for one year.
 
The GIS Developer will be the department's leading subject matter expert in GIS Development and Maintenance for Tacoma Water's Geographic Information System Enterprise Geo-Databases. They will provided analytical advice and consultation to staff and management regarding data structural design, appropriate data utilization and the impact of requested changes to existing data structures.

The incumbent will perform senior level professional functions in the Geographic Information Systems field, such as object-oriented programming, data construction, QA/QC of data, GIS analysis, web service design, system implementation, project management, client and server application development process, and internet technologies. 

This position will be assigned the responsibilities and duties of a GIS technical lead or top advisor on complex, critical or large-scale systems and/or projects, consistently applying advanced principles and techniques, planning, developing, implementing, maintaining and administering complex or multifunctional applications and systems, some of which may be enterprise-wide.  

Candidates should have excellent technical and analytical skills, as well as proven communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform data imports from other agencies, manage exports, joins and relates to provide a complete GIS solution to end users and map editors.  
  • Develop and maintain automated python scripts and processes to ensure data quality for Tacoma Water's systems of record (SAP and GIS). 
  • Extract, compare, and analyze SAP and GIS data to keep critical business data in alignment. 
  • Create new Data Reviewer Checks utilizing SQL queries. Use SQL Management Studio to design new SQL queries to keep Tacoma Waters GIS and SAP systems in synch.  
  • Build prototype solutions to demonstrate the benefits of new software tools, database queries, views or procedures
  • Test software and database upgrades and perform end-user training. 
  • Track and troubleshoot system issues, determine solutions, resolve and follow-up. 
  • Determine the appropriate GIS technology solutions to meet business requirements.  
  • Create and maintain SAP Functional Locations, Equipment records, Classes and Characteristics as they relate to water utility network GIS features and feature classes. 
  • Ensure that Tacoma Waters SAP Master data items are integrated with the GIS database.
