No access to Esri Web Course although Esri Access is enabled

I have given a user Esri access via our ArcGIS Online:

But when he tries to access a web course via the Esri training catalog, he gets the following message:

What is the difference with enabling Esri Access via ArcGIS Online (which doesn't seem to be working) and giving access via My.Esri, which does seem to enable the access?

Hi @AarjenPeeters , when an ArcGIS Online administrator enables Esri access for an individual in their ArcGIS Online organization, Esri Academy e-learning access is automatically enabled for that person at the same time. When adding an individual to your My Esri organization, the individual will have e-learning access enabled by default. So, for e-learning purposes, an individual only needs Esri access enabled in ArcGIS Online OR to be added as a member in My Esri.
