Greetings,

By way of introduction. 

My name is Robert Borchert.  I am a GIS Analyst with Great River Energy, headquartered in Maple Grove, Minnesota.  We are a Generation and Transmission Cooperative. 

My career with this company started in 2001 and for the first 15 years my focus was converting Distribution systems from AutoCAD to ArcGIS.

The last 7 years I have switched focus to helping develop our Enterprise GIS our Transmission GIS and developing applications, mostly Telecom related. 

Prior to this I worked in GIS for E911 systems for 3 years using MapInfo 

Our GIS department is pretty self-contained in that we do not rely on a lot of third-party applications.

Hi Robert - thanks for posting - you have been a very active participant in the Esri Community - we thank you. This group is dedicated solely to those involved in transmission and generation. I have been a moderator at the UC and IMGIS transmission SIGS for a number of years and have always wanted to have our own community group. NOW WE DO. One topic that always seems to come up is the ability of ArcGIS to produce really complete system diagrams. I know Great River has done this successfully. Can we start a thread on system diagrams?
