Versioning and Reconciliation

All,

I have currently been tasked with looking into versioning and how our organisation can utilise its capability.  I believe I am fairly happy with the theory behind versioning, having read the white papers and watched the seminar videos on its application, however this may prove not to be the case.

Where I do falter is in its practical application.

We are currently running ArcGIS 10 and I have created a surrogate version tree with two child versions coming off the surrogate version.  One of the many problems I am having, but definately the one that is grinding me most is the reconcile process.  Within the default, I have digitised several builings.  I have then created a surrogate version and the two child versions, so all are the same to begin with.

In the first child, I have moved some of the buildings around, reconciled and posted to the surrogate and then onto the default. The minute the updates have been posted to the default, the second child is automatically updated to match the default without having been reconciled by me.

Therefore is there an automatic reconcile and if so how can it be switched off?

Any help or advice with this matter will be extremely appreciated

Adam
