Vanishing features

Hello,

Background:
I have several feature classes within a feature dataset inside of a geodatabase. The feature dataset and feature classes were created from scratch (empty) within ArcToolbox. The feature dataset was assigned a projection (the same in fact as had been previously assigned to other feature datasets in the same geodatabase). Features were digitized in each of the feature classes (on screen digitizing, with no additional modification to their attribute tables). The features are within the same extent as features from the other legacy feature datasets.

Problem:
All the features in the feature dataset disappear from the screen as the scale increases in Data View, or in Page Layout when the scale is constant but one zooms in on the page (i.e., not a reference scale issue). Same issue when viewed in ArcCatalog's Preview window.

Temp Solution:
Give up on using ESRI's geodatabases and export them to Shapefiles where they are now fully functional again, and maybe at some later extent import them back into the geodatabase?

Note: am using ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 with Service Pack 4 on Win 7.

As a test, can you copy the problematic feature dataset to a new File Geodatabase.  Then add the feature classes to a new Map Document.  Does the same problem occur?
