In ArcGIS 9.3 Service Pack 1, ArcGIS 9.3.1, and ArcGIS 10 you can use one of the
ArcGIS Online Map Services
. These services can be access directly from the Add Data button in ArcGIS 10. For ArcGIS 9.3 and ArcGIS 9.3.1 you will need to create a connection to the gis service using the following url -
http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/services/
There is also the Landsat Imagery than can be accessed as a gis service from the following url -
http://imagery.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services
Details of this service and how to connect to it are discussed in the following blog:
Using the Landsat Image Services to Study Land Cover Change Over Time
