Trace Tool Error Help!

I have been using the trace tool in ArcEditor for over 4 years, all the sudden it does not want to work for me!  I am in ArcMap 10, this has never happened to me.  I reset my registry, then I reinstalled and all the while I still get the error.  I do not get the error in a shapefile, another geodatabase or anything.  I just tested it and found out it does not happen in another MXD, however, if I copy the MXD I still get the problem.  The problem is all my complicated utility mapping settings are in this MXD, is there a way to fix this problem so I do not have to make a new MXD and/or save the new editing templates?

I have tested various scenarios in editing. The Trace Tool does not work with any geodatabase, but it does work with shapefiles. Even if I create a new MXD, use different SDE User Accounts and different computers... I'm still having the same problem.

I'm trying to trace polyline to polygon and vice versa. My editing client is ArcMap ArcInfo 10 SP1

The SDE databases tried are 9.2, 9.3.1 and 10.

All summer I was using the Trace Tool with 10 Client to 9.2 database. It was buggy at times, but it did work. Now it will not work at all.

I have done a repair install and a full uninstall/reinstall on the ArcMap 10 SP 1.

In some of my MXDs, I am also having a problem with snapping not working properly and I'm worried that the 2 are related.
