Greetings all,

Having the following issue with our replica SDE server GDB.... (running 9.3.1)

Workflow is a three tier structure, default GBD stored on SDE server, with a 2-way replica to regional server (SQL). Edits performed through check-out from regional server to local GBD and sync'd back. This part of the workflow working fine. Problem is when syncing from regional server back to the default SDE server GDB the edits aren't updated.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Craig.

Are the check-outs on the regional servers created from the replica version? If not, you would need to reconcile and post with the replica version before syncing back to the relative replica. Have you already contacted technical support? If you have not, would you mind doing so? This may require some  investigation to determine where the issue lies.

Thanks

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for your reply, checkouts are from regional server (not replica) and are sync'd and reconciled and posted at the same time back to regional server. It's in the process of sync'ing the regional server to the default sde server that the edits don't get made.

Haven't logged a support call yet..., still troubleshooting a bit more first. Will post any developments here.

Cheers, Craig.

Hi Craig

A bit more background on where I was going with the question, which may help you with troubleshooting the problem. When you create your replica between the default sde server and the regional server, you connected to a specific version on the regional server to do so. This would most probably be the Default version. This version is referred to as the Replica Version. Now on the regional server you create checkouts for editing purposes, correct? If these checkouts are created from a version other than the Replica Version (e.g. Child1_version created from the Replica Version), then after your check-ins, you would need to reconcile and post Child1_version with the Replica Version before syncing back the replica to the default sde server.

Hope this helps.

Hi Cheryl, trust you had a great weekend!

Yep, understand your question, all checkouts are from the default layer on the regional server. "The replica version".

I have since discovered that one regional server only had Arc 9.3.1 on it. No service packs. I've since applied SP2 which includes the GDB replica, sync patch >>> http://resources.arcgis.com/content/patches-and-service-packs?fa=viewPatch&PID=43&MetaID=1533

Testing thus far looking good.  🙂 Will update further as testing continues.

Many thanks for you input,

Cheers, Craig.

Thanks Craig for the update. Glad to know that you are making progress! Weekend was well paced; hope you had a great one too! Once you confirm that your replica is working as expected that will crown off this week 🙂

Testing has gone well with syncing and replication working as it should! Joy.

Seeking some more information regarding the SP2 install. All machines in the replication workflow now running 9.3.1 SP2. Our regional servers run SQL server and the service pack instructions direct you to install another patch >>> SQL Server: SDE931sp2-SqlServer.msp

Is this component necessary?

Cheers, Craig.

Hi Craig and Cheryl,

I have experienced the same problem with one-way and two-way replicas in our SDE databases. Versioned edits will be reconciled and posted to a parent feature class in the default of DB1 and a sync will be run to move those changes to the child feature class in DB2. Nothing will happen. I know the schemas have not been changed. The layers have not been deleted and created again. I just does not work. Any ideas?

Sounds like you only installed the Desktop SP2? There is also a server side SP2 and we usually recommend keeping the clients and the server at the same SP level. The issues resolved with SDE931sp2-SqlServer.msp are listed here

Issues addressed with ArcSDE 9.3.1 Service Pack 2

Can you provide some more info on the editing and sync workflow? What version of the software are you using? What is the replica version on each geodatabase? What version is being edited; what is the target version for the reconcile? Is it the same as the replica version? Are the edits in the replica/target version after the rec/post? Which version are you checking on the child? If you prefer, Technical Support can also help you to troubleshoot the issue.
