Problem with Compression of Geodatabases

When I try to compress a Geodatabase into a zip file I get this error..."File not found or no read permission." and it is a Compressed (zipped) Folders Error. It will create the zip folder but when I extract the data out of the folder the Geodatabase is no longer usable. Anybody else run into this problem or have a work around? I need to get it into a Zip file so I can send it via my city FTP site...and yes it has to be a Zip file.

Is this a file geodatabase?  I get errors when attempting to zip a fgdb when someone has it opened.  As it creates some lock files that are opened exclusively and cannot be accessed by other applications.  I really wish there was a way to make ArcMap/Catalog close gdbs when they've stopped using them and not just when you exit the app.  At least with SDE databases you have a disconnect option.  No such thing with pgdb and fgdbs.  As it is, I always have to make sure I close out of ArcMap/Catalog before zipping a fgdb to avoid this.

Hi,

Please make sure that noone is working with the geodatabase. Check that there is no ArcGIS Server services or anything else that might hold a reference to the geodatabase.
Then try to create a copy of the geodatabase in ArcCatalog. Thereafter, try to use Windows zip utility in order to archive the geodatabase. Otherwise, you can try to use 7-zip utility. Web site is www.7-zip.org. It is free under GPL.
