You cannot edit features classes in a geometric network. NVE is allowed for simpled data only - points, lines, polygons, annotation, and relationships. Basically, anything that participates in geodatabase behaviors cannot be edited in NVE. With that set, if you unregistered your Feature Dataset as Versioned then the data becomes "simple" again and then you can edit the data.
