need to remove areas outside clipped area

Hi,  I used the clip tool to clip a large raster but it still processes the area outside the clipped area.  This increases the processing time in spatial analyst to hours when it should just be a few minutes.  Any suggestions appreciated.  Using ArcGIS 9.3.1.   Thanks, Jeff

Set the analysis extent to the desired values within the Environment settings for raster analysis.  This can be done within the Geoprocessing Options menu or from within any tool in Arctoolbox in the Environments access.
