Insert Object - Word .docx

When I insert an object, a MS Word .docx (our disclaimer), into my .mxd layout, it does not stay when I close the .mxd then reopen it? How can I insert our disclaimer so that it will stay?

I tried to use other formats like .png, .bmp, .jpeg, but they do not allow me to adjust the object size. Sometimes I need to change the size of the text box depending on the frame size.

PDF files normally work the best.

We have our disclaimer as a normal (formatted) text box - this makes adjustments much easier (esp if you want to adjust the aspect ratio (height to width) by changing line breaks).
